Drain Plug
Jedhead,
Your plug is probably way to big. I used the 1/8 pipe plug called for in the instructions and the fluid just pours out.
However, what ever you do, at least install something for a drain. The transmission loves a fluid change. They do require the level to be at the fill plug or you will need new bearings at the least.
If you choose to disregard fluid recommendations on this board and add a generic brand of ATF you should add a friction modifier available from Ford.
As an aside I remember an article about a GM six speed being rebuilt. The owner had installed Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and when they drained the transmission there was about a cup of ATF left in it. Everyone was amazed that there was little or no damage.
