When i bought my new 89 a few weeks ago the guy told me about the alarm it had. He had it in the off position and he said when you disconect the battery it will come on. He said just push the button on the other side of the steering colom to start the car. I kinda just blew it off. Well i go to start the car today and the batterys dead. So i go into the garage and get my other battery and as soon as i hook it up, the horn starts goin off. I go to push in the button n the things brokin....there is no button just the peice the button was in. So after 10 minutes i couldnt figure it out i just disconected the bat. Does anyone know how to bybass the alarm are anything? Thanks

The guy i bought the car from had it since 20k and said the alarm came on the car from factory (the car was a company car before he got it). All it is is a toggle switch on the right os the steering colom and a button on the right side.

Ok i just talked to the guy i bought the car from and he said to push the button and start the car to turn it off. I went out and when i was putting the terminal on the battery and the horn blew, which caused me to jump and the terminla to come off the battery. when i put it back on the horn didnt blow and the car started fine repeatedly. Any ideas why? And does anyone know how i can get rid of this alarm? Thanks

To remove it you have to get under the dash and find the brain of the system. Look at the wiring carefully before cutting anything. You basically have to reattach some wires like the igniton **** switch, etc after removing some relays.

To make it easier, look up the model on the net to get a wiring diagram.

Sorry I'm a little late on this, but I had a factory alarm in my 89 too. Behind the fuse panel is the brain and you'll see a white connector or two in it, pull out the top on on the passenger side and no more worky. wink Sometime or another the fuse or whatever in it will burn out and you'll have a no start problem. To fix that, pull out the two red wires from the tabs on the brain and then connect them together. Hope this helps.

Never saw the factory option for the car alarm before. Nice to know that there's always something "new" to learn on these old cars!

Ford has always made alarm systems other than just keyless. If you do a search on 3bay for "Ford Alarm" you will find alot of add on alarms. These alarms intergrate with the keyless remote system.

If your car came with Keyless REMOTE entery, you had the option of getting this from the dealer. Alot of people opted not for it, when the rest got it. here is a pic of what it looks like.

I do not have keyless entry. The guy i bought the car from said that he had a tempo and his mom had a SLO w/ this same alarm. Sorry i couldnt post pics my cusins camera is broke. When i took the radio trim off to hook up my stereo i could see how they installed it. My 8 year old brothers could have done a better job. It looks like they just drilled about 10 holes next to eachother to get it to fit. I'll try to post a pic this week so you guys can see. I'll try disableing the alarm tomarrow and let you know how it came out. Thanks!!!
