Okay soo I know there are supposed to be extra direct connect wires that go to double wired factory JBL speakers. My 93' has the connector but in the 89' I just can't seem to find it. Where behind the radio do these fabled connectors exist? I pulled the radio panel off and removed the old CD player. I even traced the harness behind the glove box and still didn't find the connector that the regular Taurii use to go straight to the speakers. I about to leave on a 1800 mile road trip in my 89' and the factory amp is blown in the trunk soo now I have to bypass it. Pics are more then welcome in this topic. Oh and I searched through 5 pages of topics for amp bypasses and nothing came up for the 89. :salute:

Hey bud,

If I remember right, when I did my 89, I had to shine a flash light in there and rummage around. If I recall though, it was attached to some kind of bracing in there and I was able to pull it off and use it. Its very possible that this was something I dreamed up though

I think I am right though. If you have the adapter that it plugs into that makes it easier to find. You know what to look for that way. Sorry this was a useless post :p

Okay soo I pulled the radio panel off and took another look. Nada. Zippo. Niente. Soo I poked around with a flash light and there are no open connectors anywhere.None stuck to supports or anything. All the radio cords and harnesses are coming from the passenger side behind the glove box. I didn't see anything in that area either. There are no cut connectorsor loose wires anywhere. this car looks like brand new even behind the dang dash board. For a last chance I even removed the steering column under panel to have a look with the flash light and still nothing. Is is possible that this car doesn't have the extra connector? This car doesn't have an EATC either it is a plain 3 **** climate control.

I really want to put my new IPOD controlling CD player in before we drive out on monday. I would run all new speaker wires but it is too dang cold here in VA and I have no propper tools or a good place to do it. Also time is short here. HELP! Anybody have a Pic of the actual connector so I know exactly what I'm looking for? What about wire color and # of wires?

where in VA are you, if around DC I might be able to help you find it. I just did this in my 94 and it was plugged into a blank connector that was attached to a brace to the left of the radio opening. IIRC it was about 3-4 inches in. I was about to give up myself until I saw this group of wires running into a connector but none coming out the other side. Gave it a yank and there it was. Also, Make sure you still disconnect the amp cause I didn't know to do that and blew out 3 fuses in the back of the head unit before I figured it out. Lemme know if I can help.

My '88 Mercury Sable had the extra connectors and I now another guy that had an '89 Sable that had the extra connectors also. You may have better luck going through the steering column panel if you cannot find them through the radio opening.

Okay soo I got it installed. It works perfectly. I went in the trunk and verified the double wiring and wire color. The bypass harness was located above and to the right of the radio opening. It was connected to another connector with identical wires coming out of it. Thats what confused me. Everybody here said it was connected to nothing or to a dummy connector. This actually looked to be going elsewhere. Thanx for all the help I'm happyn with my ipod on shuffle controlled through the new CD player.
