Just got my estimate from the local Ford Garage, 700 dollars to fix my powersteering pump, **** THIS! Sorry for the language but this is insanely high, is it not??

Can someone tell me how much a pump would cost and pulley bearing, and give me some directions to do it myself.. My uncle will do it for me.. Thanks..

A reman pump runs ~$150 and is about 2 hours labor (by the Ford book, DIY labor is probably more like 3-4 hours). If your uncle is going to do the labor, his best guidance would be the shop manual since I don't believe this is an operation covered by any FAQ's, and a description here probably wouldn't do the process justice.

i have the hauns or hammens or whatever, manual that tells you everything u need.. My uncle said he needed a specail puller to take the pulley out, is this true?? or is it just a regular tool.

If ur 95 is the same as my 94 then the answer to ur pulley question is no. Just unbolt the nut and u can take the pulley off with no puller at all. The pulley isnt pressed on to the shaft on my 94 and I think its fair to say that ur 95 wouldnt be either.

I just got the pump done and idler pulley at the same time (also tranny fluid) on my 91 MTX and that cost $598.80. It seems a little high, but about average for what you get from a Ford Dealership- they suck! shoot

Hey I just did one of these suckers this weekend. Got a used pump from a junkyard for $50.00, if you need to swap over pulley's no puller needed just unbolt and pop off. The tricky part was getting it out, I had my transmission out so I had a little easier access but it may be possible to do it with the trannie in. Try going from below, if you unbolt the mount bolting the trans to the motor and unbolt the mount from the kframe see if you can jack the engine up enough to clear the mount. Unbolt the pump from the bracket (3 bolts through pulley and one in rear) push it up out of the way, then unbolt the tensioner and all the bolts holding the motor mount bracket to the engine (think its about 6) then just work that bracket out and you should be able to disconnect the lines and pull it out. Not sure if you will need to pull the axle or not, I had mine out for the trannie job.

kmachstang,

What was the reason you replaced the pump? Noisy? leaking, or what?

Trying to decide if I want to try a pump as a fix for my PS feedback issues. Already replaced the rack this spring for other issues and still have that goofy kickback when turning.

I replaced the pump because it was ****** power steering fluid all over the cat making the engine smoke :( all fixed now. If your willing to go used I would think its worth a shot for $50.00 if you wana get your hands dirty, not really any major components to the PS other than the rack and pump.

Well There is a bunch of bs going on with my car, I bought a extended warranty and when the dealership checked on it, they said they had no record of my car... so My car is sitting in the ford garage and i have no car..no ride to schoool work etc.

Anyways if that doesn't work out, my dads uncle owns a junk yard he can get me a used one for 80 and my uncle can put'er in...

i'll let ya know

Qoute "still have that goofy kickback when turning."

this may be a stupid question, but is it anything like the variable power assisted steering like my 93 has? But i guess if it's an 89 they didnt have that then.. oh well.. have a great day!
