So for any of those audiophiles out there or just someone looking into getting a little more bass out of their system, I found a couple 6x9 subs...http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/genesis-profile-p694-p-3014.html and also a powered kenwood 6x9 sub...http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2619.html Personally, I think that I will be going with the kenwood. It's had GREAT reviews from the BMW crowd (as I drive a BMW as my 2nd car) and having the lower price. Each of these orders do come with two (2) subs each, so you can always split the cost with someone or just sell the other outright on the forum or ebay.

I'm not sure but my 99 did not have any speaker cut outs in the rear carpeting for the 6x9 sub. 96's might have had that, but mine just had a pressed particle board thing that formed the rear package tray cover. It has slots cut in the board for the rear deck speakers though, just not the sub.

my .02

I just put 6x9's in the 5x7 openings and left the 15" RF's in the trunk. Good nuf

Yeah in the sheet metal theres an opening, but not in the rear carpet. I'm not sure how important that is but I figured it might have cutouts for it, like a speaker grille, as in the full range rear speakers.

There's an opening for sure:

the 97+ had the cutout in the rear deck sheetmetal but nothing in the rear deck carpeting, doesn't take much to cut it out though

avocadoman1, you are correct! I gave the links above to v8sho.com on the 'how-to' for the aftermarket 6x9 sub install. Everything is in there...
