I'm just posting this as a refference because I know its a commonly asked question so I thought I'd clear some things up. Someone should make this a sticky it could be usefull.

The two essensial tools for adjusting the valve clearance on 89-85 SHOs are availible from OTC like most people know. Most people are turned away from this because OTC only accepts credit cards for their orders. All you need to do is have a parts store that sells OTC tools order them, and you can pay cash. In fact I ordered them right off the Snap On truck at my work. They cost me $35. I still cant beleive what these things are going for on ebay, and in the classifieds here on the forum. They are easy to get people! and cheap! for your reference is a pic along with the OTC part numbers:

Tappet Compressor: OTC Global Part # 303-344
Tappet Holder: OTC Global Part # 303-345

Again, sticky this!

Part of that set is also the pick tool. You need this to remove the shim from the valve bucket. The tool itself is not required though, any sharp object (such as nails) will do.

O-ring picks work well. and are availible all over. You don't need the specific pick for this application.

I think it should be sticky, this is good, useful information. Sure I want to support our vendors, but I'd rather go through someone else if the price is right.
