It can be removed and replaced by removing the shift linkage from the transmission's shift shaft stub. You will want to drain the transaxle fluid by removing the 13mm shift interlock bolt on the lower front driver side of the transaxle casing or insert a tube into the fill plug an suck it out with a vacuum pump. The seal is about $5 and has a metal shroud that you can pry and pull out.

just pry the old one out using anything you can, just dont damage the transaxle case. To re-install you **** press it in, sometimes requires a tap with a small rubber hammer.

I used needle nose plyers in the closed position and spread them against the outer ****** of the seal. It came out very easily. This was with the tranny out of the car. It wasn't leaking, but I replaced most of the seals while servicing the clutch/tranny.

Best bet on replacing the seal is to use a socket over the seal and gently tap it in squarely. Also you don't need to drain the fluid when replacing the seal.
