I was browsing Google and ran across this. Has anyone else attempted this?

Like the specs of the bore are there.. so it's a thought. I may go pull the v8 sho motor here in the junkyard for experiments and such. As this just blows my mind and my friends has a laze cdc machine...

I have not read of anyone that has done it. At least, not read of it on any of the main SHO type forums.

It's strange and cool, but it would be complicated as heck to do. The author of the link claims to have used the over bored motor on the AX4N transmission which makes me wonder what was all done to the transmission and tc to handle the output.

WOW. That was a long time ago. I remember that conversation and nothing really came of it.

When I put an M90 on a 96 SHO, the stock tranny grenaded in 160 miles. Don't even THINK of doing something like this without a built trans already on hand.

Oh yeah - as with ALL things Hot Rodding - speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go? Boring and stroking a motor like ours SHOuld be done as a labor of love because you ain't gonna get **** out of it much beyond the cool factor.

Cool factor is good enough for me. Would it be good enough to carry you through a project like the one suggested above?

Hard to tell by the link that an actual working modified motor was used - the language seems to make assumptions and what-ifs. Keep in mind you're talking about a 50% increase in displacement and I just can't imagine that this motor/tranny combo would stand up to such a huge alteration. At the end of the day, you'd still have a FWD car, and the amount of beefed-up components would add significant weight and probably cost in parts and labor about as much as a down payment and first year's payments on a new GT 350.

Never happened. Never close. Closest I heard of anyone seriously boring the V8 SHO block was to get that damn pieces of iron out of there before they turned it in for aluminum recycling. Never seen proof of a bored/stroked 3.4 SHO engine.

Not saying it CAN'T be done. Saying it HASN'T been done and made to run. I'd LOVE to see it done, especially with 20 yr newer technology. Would probably be a total screamer!

Yamaha also made this at the same time for Volvo. Think there was a five liter available. Same bore spacing if I recall.
