Ok guys, they've finally announced when the fireworks will be. They are going to be on Saturday July 5th at 10:00 pm.
Over the last few years there have been a few people that have come out to spend the evening, cook out and enjoy a bonfire, beverages of your choice and the fireworks that we can see from our back yard. For a long time I've wanted to have an official meet for the 4th and I mentioned in another thread about it once before but now that it's almost time I figured perhaps I should start getting things arranged and get a feel for who would be interested in coming.
This would be a "bring something to eat and drink" type event where everybody should bring a little something to eat and a little something to drink. Naturally I would provide some food as well and we would be having a BBQ with a bonfire to follow which I would provide the wood for. It would be advisable to bring a blanket or folding chairs to sit on. There is also the option of fishing as long as you have a valid fishing license and a pole. For those of you not in Michigan, you can buy a one day license online.
Now there would be a few rules. Yeah, yeah, I know. But they're really not that bad.
1) This is a really small town. Given the holiday, cops will be on the alert and there will be literally TONS of people out walking around that day, especially little kids excited about the fireworks. It's our biggest town event of the year. The speed limit through my neighborhood is 15 mph so I would ask that anyone who comes PLEASE abide by that speed limit. NO burnouts. I don't want to hear it from my neighbors about my rowdy friends, nor do I want a visit from the PD.
2) You can do minor things to your car if you want, but this would be a meet for enjoyment rather than a hands on tech style meet. I want everybody to have a good time and relax and enjoy the camaraderie which will be refreshing for everybody I'm sure.
3) Alcoholic beverages: If you're under age, you can't drink here. If you're bound and determined to drink you'll have to do it AFTER you leave. For those of you who are of age, if you drink here, you stay here unless you have a designated driver. Our house is pretty small so we don't have a lot of room inside, but feel free to bring a tent or a sleeping bag or you could even opt for sleeping in your car if you wanted to.
4) No wacky weed or other illegal drugs.
Now that I've totally ruined the mood with the "rules" (LOL), who'd be interested in coming out? If there's not a lot of interest, we also have the boat races August 9th and 10th. No fireworks, but still fun.
Show of hands?
