3rd gear started grinding when i downshift

Transmission Fluid

Remove and replace the ATF in the transmission with the highest quality ATF you can find.

1. Install a drain plug. (see threads for this)
2. Add any ATF and drive it for 50 miles or so.
3. Drain again and use the best ATF you can find. (see threads again) It may take a couple of hundred miles before you see a change.

This should help it a lot and really is worth a try.

you say ATF but i have a standard, is automatic trans fluid what is should use?

Yes, the MTX uses ATF for lubricant.

Do you match revs on downshifts? Learning to do this saves a lot of wear and tear on both the clutch/pressure plate and the transmission.

i guess i should start doing this...
