Does anyone know if 3M has made a clear film protector for our new 2011 Taurus yet. I want to avoid stone chips on the front end ASAP

A real installer cuts the film by himself and doesn't use templates.
How the **** do you cut the film without a template? Whether he puts it up to the car or uses a program, you're referencing something. A REAL installer has a roll of film, a good computer and an expensive cutter. And he does it more quickly then cutting it out of thin air.
A real installer has done my various cars numerous times. A real installer has done a very professional job for me. A real installer has done it for a great price, too, since he doesn't take forever to cut it out of thin air and can do more vehicles in a day...
No. A REAL installer that is experienced needs no template to cut from. He lays the film on and cuts it with a blade. He does not need anyone to cut it for him.
Then hopefully your installer was a wiz at Operation. Because my installer didn't waste time risking hurting the car, had his computer bring up the proper template, his cutter cut the pattern and then had it on the car in less time and got more done. And with precision. That's great if your REAL installer did it another way. Personally, I don't care about YOUR real installer.
That's the great thing about these new SHO owners. Some will be as douchey and pompous as many of the Cadillac guys...
I am a installer and I install paint protective film using both methods. The thing that I hate is that the great template that bigjim was talking about aren't always the best they can be generic and not always fit right. In the long run trying to fix the templetes are a waste of time. So I make my own templates and cut them on the plotter and there is little or no trimming done on the car. The car can be done and I have done hundereds of vehicles and if there is no template they can be made by the installer, just make sure the shop backs there work and there is a warranty on the film.
Not douchey at all. If your installer is so great he should be able to do it by himself, and not have someone have to cut it for him.
I have done so many custom vehicles from motorhomes, bikes, full custom simi truck I even did his frame and bottom of trailer, Factory Five custom kit car, cars, trucks, back of a boat where the swim platform meets. The material has a warranty that protects from dulling, yellowing, if it ever does it have it replaced. All of my cars have it and I have never had a problem. It is much nicer because it blends in and doesn't stick out like a bug sheild does. You can never tell between a template and custom job if the person knows what he is doing, and has done it for many years, you can never tell.
