It was once said that these SHO engines were rated at 300hp but Ford didn't want the SHO to compete with the Mustang. Is there any way that I could squeeze out that much power without putting a turbo or something on it?

I think the 300 hp figure comes from the GN34 prototype that ultimately spawned the SHO V-6. 280-300 horsepower was the target for that car; whether or not the prototype SHO engine got there is something I can't say for certain.

Agreed. The data and info we have seen points to a larger displacement SHO engine about 3.6L that would hit the 300 mark.
just to think if the sho engine wasent a 3.0 or 3.2 but was a 3.8 mmmmmm.......

Yes, You can make 300HP..... Every Bolt on and Cams will get you there. Nitrous will do it faster and cheaper however.
