My tuner wants $120 for a Cx2231 sensor. Rock Auto will a CX2594 which cross references it for $81. Are these the same or should I just pay more? If it's better I have no issue paying more.

The CX2594 is the newer part number, the originals were made in Germany (probably Bosch) the newer ones are typically china or the phillipines, not sure if they're made by bosch anymore or not. No real reason to pay that much if you're just buying the sensor alone, it tends to be less expensive if you buy a complete kit from the tuner (plugs/thermostat/sensor) but for a single piece it's probably cheaper to find your own for any of them. If they have genuine CX2231s the advantage would be probably being German made (at least to most this would be an advantage) but they'd also likely be very old stock at this point. I'd wager you'd get a CX2594 at this point anyway. FWIW if you have pick n pull type junkyards nearby the OEM pre throttle body sensor is the same sensor and usually only goes for 10-15 bucks at a u pull, with so many bad water pumps killing otherwise good ecoboost 3.5 transverse cars they're usually easy to find. We usually have at least one Flex/MKS/Taurus in our local yard at any given moment.

CX2594 is a 3 bar then right? I bought the original in a package. I forgot to take it out when I went to the dealership but I did put the tune back to stock and I guess they switched it out unknown to me at the time. Now they want $120, however Rock Auto has the CX2594 for $81
