One of the examples in this family of engines has direct and port injection (2017 Raptor).
Is this development in the Raptor shared by other F150 trucks and the SHO?

I seem to remember that Infinity has a direct injection system that also has port injection at low RPMs.

I think this is in response to the "back of the valve" coking issue that deposits crud, but that is just a guess on my part.

Various German & Japanese mfrs have had the combo DI/PI setup for some time, IIRC. Not in common use though. Too expensive.

From Wikipedia;
Some engines overcome this limitation by using both direct injection and multiport fuel injection, including Toyota 2GR-FSE V6 and Volkswagen Group TSI Engines.

"The real story, though, lies just above and below the intake runner. You can see that there are actually two injectors for each cylinder - the top one is a standard port fuel injector, while the bottom one injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber. The two injection systems are used together to optimize the fueling over the engine's operational envelope."

Ford's official brochure says the new 3.5 in the Raptor makes 13.2 lbs of boost; C&D review says 18. Wonder which it is?

So I am taking it that the other F150s and the SHO do not get this development. Which is not nice if it is true. The SHO should lead the fleet when it comes to development. And your luxury car buyers should get all the features that lead to less aggravation during ownership. I don't think that walnut shell blasting is something people look forward to.

How about the Lincolns, did they get the port injection along with the direct injection?

This new 3.5 Ecoboost is currently only for the Ford GT and the Raptor.
Currently, it isn't slated for any other model.... I'm sure that will change in a year or so.
Remember, in 2009, the Lincoln MKS was first, followed a few months later with the 2010 SHO, to get the 3.5 Ecoboost.
For 2017, Lincoln has gotten the 3.0 Ecoboost first with 400hp.... So there's that...

I see that the Lincoln 3.0 Ecoboost has direct injection only, and has a maximum boost of 16.7 psi, and 400 HP.

So no supplemental port injection is on the immediate horizon, even with this new engine series.

My question now is, is this valve coking issue a common concern, or is it sensational reporting on a possible problem. As an uniformed consumer, the scare message got through to me.

First the are no similarities between the Gen 1 3.5 to the new Gen 2 3.5. Every I've read its a whole new engine. Even the Raptor 3.5 is different from the regular F150 3.5. Im try to find out what difference there are. Yeah DI motors have to deal with intake valves getting coated with carbon deposits. That's why its important to run a high quality oil, most of us run full synthetic oils. Meth injection if you use it, will clean the intake trac and valves.
