2 weeks ago my wife was driving her 96 SHO when it started to lose power. Since this happened I started to read about the cams, and I know they weren't done. the car still starts (which i only tried this the uther day 1 time),its never had a tune up in the 5 yrs we owed it, 102k on it and I do believe I heard the timing chain rattling.Where on earth do you get parts for this motor,ie timing set, guides, tensioner, gaskets, etc...?????
thanks in advance for any advice

pull the front valve cover and see if one of the front cams is spun

It is much easier to just watch the water pump pulley to see if it spins. the rear is a little more difficult. if it lost allot of power and has a real doggy rev it has probably spun a cam.

thank for the info but what about gakets and parts???

most cam failures need new motors use motors

i got a used one for $175(shortblock), $500 or so into heads being fixed, about $400 in gaskets, me pulling the motor priceless :p :p :p :p :nut:

but you could get by with a motor still being good the one i put in was a cam failure but nothing bad happen to the short block..

you wont have to buy any gaskets to check ether cams un hook the intake from the cuplurs. then uhook all vac lines and throttle cable.. pull that plenum out.. and you need the other stuff thats needed to get that cam cover off. and pretty smiple if you have basic tools...
