I've been having a squeeking noise from my access belt area that I thought was the belt itself. After some time went by, the squeeking (that increased with the RPMs) got louder and sounds more mechanical than just a belt. To save time, I brought it to a shop and paid for a diagnostic to find which part it may be so I could maybe replace it. They came up with the tensioner pulley assembly. They said they would only be able to get it from Ford and it would be $230 for the part. I tried looking around the net,but could not come up with anything.

First question; is this part that rare?

Second question (forgive me if it's stupid, I'm not too mechanical) can the pully's squeeking be a lubrication problem? It's a noticable low squeek at idle, then becomes louder and faster with throttle. "squeek squeek squeek..." The other day I drove through a pretty big puddle and splashed alot of water. The squeeking stopped for about 30 seconds.

Thanks,
Chris

My apologies, I thought it was in reference to a timing belt for the ATX, not the serpentine belt. Whoops.

I just went through this exact thing. Chirping noise coming from the passenger side, Myth- sounds like serp. belt. NOPE! Fact- Timing tensioner pulley fell off of the bolt holding the pulley onto the bracket, thus making the pulley wheel itself rub on either the bracket and/or the plastic timing belt covers. Solution- New Belt, Tensioner, and Tensioner pulley. Nice Time to get at the water pump while your there anyways. Ive got pictures and posts, I hope they help.

If you have any more questions let me know,
John

Edit: Where as to find the tensioner, try buying one from someone on here. Or If absolutly needed try a junkyard but make sure the post on the tensioner doesnt wobble and can't be pushed down with your fingers. Same with the pulleys. (Pulleys are a little easier to find). Good luck.

P.S. HI FRED!

Thanks for the info. When I get sometime, I'll take the accessory belt off and run it to see if it still squeeks. I kind of hope it does. I can get a timing tensioner easier than an accessory tensioner. IF that's what it is.

Lucky for me, this isn’t my daily driver. I procrastinate way too much. I finally removed my accessory belt to test if it’s my accessory belt pulley or my timing belt pulley. I ran the engine without the accessory belt and there was no noise. So now, I guess I better start looking in junkyards for the drive belt tensioner assembly :nut: . Even though I was able to spin the pulleys freely without squeaking, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t squeak under the pressure of the belt. Right? Really, it’s coming from the rear, so it could be the power steering pump, water pump or the tensioner. I wonder if a little **** could quiet the squeaker up? (Always looking for an easy fix)

i had the same problem but it wasent a squeak noise it was a high pitched squeal and it was the idle pulley on the a/c bracket and it was very expensive ford part but you can send away to japan and get the bearings for $40 and just get it pressed in.
now my car is mtx no longer does it squeal but if you really need i got the tentioner pulley that is in good shape i'd give away for cheap if ya need it.

Yea, PM me how much you want for it. I assume since it is so tight to get into that area, I may be better off going thru the wheel well. Is that correct? Anyone have experience changing this assembly out?
