I have just received a set of four 225/55YR16 Goodyear F1 GS-D3 tires to replace my near end-of-life Bridgestone RE730s. I have enjoyed the Bridgestones and was anticipating replacing them with the upgraded RE750. However, after reading the information and now touching the GS-D3s with my own hands, I have to admit I will be mounting the first set of Goodyears on my SHO since it's OEM tires. I am impressed by the structure and design of these tires and look forward to having them mounted on my SHO's 7.5" wide wheels.
The Tire Rack sale price of $139 and a Goodyear $75 cash card rebate reduces the effective price of these tires to only $119.50+s&h. That puts these maximum performance tires well into the price range of much lower performance tires. The shipping was only $35 for Dallas so that added cost was even less than my local sales taxes. One sad note: the Goodyear rebate is effective only through August 28.
This maximum performance tire is top rated in that category in Tire Rack's survey. The Bridgestone S03 and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 are worthy competitors that can beat the GS-D3 in certain performance areas. For the cost difference, I can live with that. The treadwear rating on this size of the GS-D3 is 280, so I expect to roll a good 25,000-30,000 miles on these doughnuts.
