All, Cleaning the connectors did not work, codes have returned #!%*. Code points to camshaft position sensor, any of you had these codes and this sensor fixed the problem? From what I have read the crank position sensor may be the problem too. In the event I have to take my SHO to someone :( for repair are there any recommendations for Seattle area?

changing the cam sensor is easy, remove the passenger side torque limiter and you can see it bolted to the rear head. the cps is another story, but change the CID and see if that helps ya.

A new CID (cam) sensor should solve your problem. If the CPS had been failing, the engine wouldn't be running during those episodes. The 212/214 combination points to the CID sensor.

Problem began with a couple of hard starts, starting second or third try with check engine light (bout two months apart). Intermittent check engine light while driving. Once warmed up start attempts became worse, would start after several attempts, once started there would be no tachometer until speed up a bit later. (this has not happened again in a dozen start attempts.) When cold the car starts up like a champ. Codes are always 212 and 214. I intend to replace the cam position sensor first (codes point that way)...followed by the crank position sensor. If this does not work I may take a stab at some of the more pinpoint test by device procedures outlined in my manual.

The new cylinder identification (CID, cam) sensor will solve your starting problems and the prevent the 212 an 214 error codes. The crankshaft position sensor has not yet failed on your car or you would know it. Wait until the next timing belt replacement service before you change that component out.
