I like the pattern for the seat perforation and the rear console.

What's the deal with the right rear seat belt buckle though? Is that the type of buckle they use with the inflatable seat belts?

Looks good. If the base is packing 325HP, hopefully the SHO get the Raptor's 450+ HP EcoBoost engine!

I really hope this is not the case but here is a follow up article from Business Insider regarding US versions...........Say it isn't so..

Ford unveiled the Taurus redesign, which it says is aimed specifically for the Chinese market and won't be for sale in the U.S., at a media event on Saturday ahead of the Shanghai autoshow.

Ford hasn't said whether or when it will replace the current Taurus in the U.S.

This is the Chinese spec, that will be built there, but I expect the US version to look very similar.
I know I read somewhere they are retooling the factory now, so, talk about last minute debut.....
I also heard that the same product manager responsible for the Ford GT is leading the Taurus design team. That's gotta be good....
I'm not sure what I think of this conservative styling. Maybe it's the right idea since the traditionally conservative brands have gone highly stylized.
I like the direction they are taking Lincoln.

The Mondeo starts around 30k here so the Taurus may be close to 50k, one of my coworkers just bought a Volvo s60l 2.0t and paid 320k RMB, or about 53k bucks...and that is not a swedish made Volvo. I guess this Taurus may draw some of those buyers - many tell me the Mondeo just isn't as nice as the s60L.

Ford is expensive but definitely not luxury. Lincoln (which is coming to china soon) has a very good reputation here, a luxury Taurus makes zero sense. I think the MKZ would be more reasonable....but if MKS is going away and replaced by a more expensive Continental, maybe that means Ford can move upmarket.

Its an uglier, larger Fusion....but why would anyone expect something else? All other Ford sedans follow the same design.

I will say I like the headlights, however they went way too "Chrysler 300" on the entire front end to suit my taste - and I'm talking the 2014 300 not the nicer looking 2015... I was shocked to read that the base price will be $48k - I sincerely hope they're wrong on that one. That would put the SHO (if they plan on making one that is) $52k and up... For that money, they're going to lose a lot of people to Audi, BMW and Benz.

Oh by the way, the platform for the 2016 is a stretched Fusion platform - the Volvo platform it presently sits on will still exist in the Ford family but in larger (!!) cars (like the upcoming Lincoln Continental).

48k is base price in China, which with 2.7 turbo is a great deal...but I have a feeling the real base will be a 2.0 turbo and the v6 will cost about 60-70k...

If you ignore increased government regulations, inflation, and what the advanced in technology actually do, I'm sure it does seem ridiculous. The increase in price is not all their fault, and I question whether prices actually have increased.

You can get an Extended cab 4x4 F150 for under $35,000 still - and really your $33,000 in 2004 is $41,000 today. If you had a 4.6L in the 2004, a 2015 V6 is going to have more power and save you money on fuel too.

OK, so this is a bit speculative, but it's possible that the SHO edition will look like this: http://www.carscoops.com/2015/04/future-cars-putting-sho-into-fords-all.html ...that's a render, but based on what we already know is true from the Shanghai show... just with a bit of GT350R thrown in ;)

With that combination, I do like it, however, I'd never pay $60k/$70k for any Taurus, not even for a SHO. That just ain't gonna happen. If I were to spend that much, I'd be getting a different make altogether... maybe a Charger Hellcat or for slightly more, the Corvette C7 Z06 which IMO looks awesome in yellow/black.

Definitely fairy tale land. But it would be cool to see something to challenge the big boys...like the Charger Hellcat (4 door) and new Cadillac.
