Does anyone else have a 2016 with nav. The dealer told me it auto downloads maps and doesn't have an sad card. Where this is great I wonder if it's for the life of the vehicle or until your sync contract runs out in three years. And I might have missed understood I thought you only get full sync access (i.e. Website not infotainment usage) for 36 months then you have to pay for services after that.

it is true that it will download updates via wireless and there is no SD card.

at this time, there is no updated map available, since its basically new. They have not yet finalized pricing of updates after the warranty period, according to the information I have at this time.

the best part of Sync3 is that it supports Car Play and Android Auto, so you can essentially have your phone screen appear on the car's screen. note that some models will need a software update before they support this, so if it doesn't work for you, ask your dealer for the update.

Are there size differences in the Sync 3 versus Sync 2? I've seen services advertised to swap the unit for the later Sync 3 unit for about $1000 and I'm kind of interested.

to clarify what I wrote earlier - the 2017 models with Sync3 are supposed to support Car Play and Android Auto from the factory. The earlier models with Sync3 require a software update to support them, said software update may or may not yet be available.

The screen is the same physical size. For example the 2016 MKX was Sync2 until about November, then Sync3 and you cannot tell by looking inside of a vehicle when it is not turned on.

Still too new for any updates. Just make sure your auto update is turned on in the car and when in range for WiFi it will look for anything new. At least I think that's how it works.

I understood what you were saying rubydist and you're right on 2016's prolly won't get an update till fall. And a friend of mine was looking at a swap out from his sync 2 my touch to sync 3. If it's possible in sure it won't be cheap lol
