So, got my 2016 on Monday to replace my 2013.
Long story short, I had ordered a new '16 back at the end of January, but it never moved in the order system. Come to find out, the factory was making 100% Explorers with no Taurus production in sight. So my salesman drove 100 miles away to get me a car with the options and color I wanted. It has the sunroof and contour seats that I didn't order, but whatever. The only real difference between my '13 and '16 is that the '13 had parallel park assist which was no longer available from '15 on with the PP?
My overall impressions are very good, especially about build quality. My '13's trunk lid didn't line up right with the rear corner of the fender, and the lid was level, so the fender wasn't hung right from the factory. This time, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING lines up right.
On to the performance, at least, handling-wise. Suspension seems slightly softer (see note below). First thing I did was check the tire pressure, and of course, they left all four at 31 lbs. Upped that to 42, and it became less of a marshmallow
But overall, body-roll is the same or close (PP actually comes with a smaller front sway bar, or so I've heard).
Haven't really tromped on it with only 200 miles on it so far, but the engine sounds meaner/deeper than my '13. Just checked, and nothing sticks out like air box or intake differences, or maybe I just hear the engine better now.
One weird idiosyncrasy in my '13 was that when the ambient temperature was below 45-50, it would hold 3rd gear for a LONG time, if I wasn't going more than 50MPH or so. Guess what? '16 did the same exact thing today as it's the first time I'm driving it at 43 degrees. Weird.
Road noise, and going over bumps, the car is MUCH quieter than my '13. Doors sound different when closing them. Bumps don't make as much noise. Less road noise overall. My wife called the '13 a "tin can" and I kind of agree with her, not that I minded of course. But she'll like this one.
Steering dampening/feedback is stiffer than my '13 - which is actually adjustable I think, electronically by the dealer (or tuner?).
NOTE for above: Suspension seems slightly softer, road noise/doors are quieter, wonder if they put more sound deadening in it making it heavier so the suspension seems "softer"?
Sync 3 is much improved over the Sync 2. Which is one of the reasons I held out for a 2016. Definitely worth the wait.
So anyway, if anyone has any questions, feel free!
PS: I plan on going under the car sooner or later and seeing if they added any more sound deadening materials, and I'll check out the doors too.
