Hi guys I had a 2013 Taurus SHO and a 2011 Taurus SHO traded my 2013 in about 2 years ago. Just picked up another 2013 on Friday. Only has 26k on it mint condition, I have my LMS tuner still that I have to program to this vehicle. My question is I had the 3 bar tune on my last one I plan on doing it again to this one..... Is it absolutely necessary to change the spark plugs and the thermostat or can I just swap the 3 bar sensor in and run the 93 octane 3 bar tune on it is anybody doing this? I I forgot if I did the plugs in my other one but are there any reliability issues it's my daily driver if I just swap the 3 bar sensor out leave the stock thermostat and stock plugs in and load the 93 octane 3 bar tune in it? Thanks!

You should at least check one or two plugs before installing a tune. If they are gapped correctly and not fouled you should be fine. The tunes for a cooler stat will how the fan runs to take advantage, I would imagine the fan will run more often with the stock stat trying to keep the temps where it expects them to be. Also check the strategy code before tuning you new SHO as it may not be the same.

If it were me I would just email LMS for updated tunes.

Will not work "properly!" Your stock plugs have way to big of a gap and with the added boost from the turbos you're going to have blow-out! Definitely needs gaped plugs to 30 thousandths and you don't need "new," plugs, just gap the current ones. I'm not sure about the thermostat though - maybe not a huge factor if you're not racing it all the time.

I thought the Ford plugs are gapped at 30? Maybe that changed at some point but my SP-534s were gapped at 30 from the factory.

My 2014 were around 34 - can't remember. I guess just check them to be safe.

Just looked at the 2013 manual and it does state 0.033-0.037. 2017 says 0.030-0.033 so there was a change at some point. I agree to definitely check them before running the tune.

.030 is what we recommend gapping the plugs for non stock applications such as our 93 tunes
That is the info I got when I ordered the mycal. Got the plugs off Amazon last time as they were $4 each at the time and they came gapped at 30. Plugs should always be checked before installing to be sure though.
