will do... from google search and reading, could it also be the bad PTU that the TSB for an earlier model year mentioned?

Your Power Transfer Unit sends torque to the drive shaft all the time. It's not the put. I would take a good bet something is wrong with the AWD system and specifically with the active torque coupling clutch. It could be the relay too. The relay will be gunned at it first per the pinpoint test most Lilly.

If you have access to jack stands there is an electrical connector to the input housing of the rear differential. Disconnect it and see if your binding and noise go away.

work 2 fulltime jobs, so time super tight...ugh.... and just had neck surgery today(minor)... and have to go 6hrs round trip in the morning to pick up my daughters new to her 2013 taurus se... she had a close encounter with a deer in her 2010 crown vic police interceptor and they totalled it.. so probably won't have time to jack stand it.. next free day my game plan is to ask for a tech to ride with me as last issue I had, the writer heard and felt my F350 issue but would fix it because a tech has to hear it.. and he couldn't "produce it" turbo whistle and chatter (6.7L diesel ) kinda BS.. traded it in on the SHO to fix truck issue......only had the SHO about a yr... and have had zero issues and not real familiar with AWD... so any suggestions are great so I can know if I am getting BS from the shop... thanks guys

Would you describe the feeling if your truck in 4 high making a tight turn. If it feels similar, your WED is very much suspected.

Very good description....maybe not as harsh as an f350 in 4wd...on a dry parking lot doing tight circles....but a similar feel and goes away when straighten wheel...like winding up the parking garage levels today...heard felt it in turns but gone on straight away...slow speed.......what s WED?

WED is an acronym that results from me not proof reading before going to bed and trusting my phone to autocorrect my misspellings.

Replace it with A.W.D. (All wheel drive)

Thanks...that's what I figured.... Just home from a 6hr round trip getting daughter's car...and it's definitely getting worse....just turning left on my street and into my driveway it's doing it now....looked at brakes..and tried some speed and slow stops to see if car pulls left or right and all is good...it's gotta be the AWD not handling the turn and weight distribution at the wheels and slipping or tearing up.... unfortunately I won't make shop trip til the 23rd... Hope it lasts til then....I only work 4 miles from house...so limited driving until then

Just discovered...this may be worse with heat/usage....did 3hrs up to get daughter's car at that dealer like 30 min... And 3hrs home....it was much worse even turning into driveway....slept, to work overnight..car sat like 7 hrs.... didn't feel it on the 4 mile trip to work.... Maybe just fluid change??? Or is heat building because of a problem??? Am I thinking about this right?

Had a very similar problem in a previous awd car (non Taurus) ended up being that my rear diff fluid was getting dirtied up with metal shavings from the clutch. It's a longshot but sounds almost exactly like the issue I had.

Wow multiple body and vehicle failures at same time. Update when you get the chance...

Still dealng with medical stuff....but driving 50 miles to hospital...heats it up enough to grind going up the parking garage...and the turns in my neighborhood getting home... No problem 3 miles each way to work

Finally got a chance to take it to dealer...it turns out the rear differential clutch pack is failing at 39,500 miles.... Covered under power train...2 interesting points...they ordered a whole rear axle assy and it will take a week or 2 because they have to build one...also I got a free service loaner...2017 F250 Lariat 4x4 long bed... Pretty sweet.

Some of Ford's Active Torque Coupling clutches are serviceable seperalty from the rear differental. Some are not. If the A.T.C. clutch is not available seperatly the dealership can order the next level part (a whole rear diff) but sometimes those parts can be on backorder.

I cannot recall if our clutch is servicable.

Good thing it's under warranty AND they gave you a loaner :) Wonder if the RDU was low on fluid ...

The clutch is self contained and has no serviceable fluid that it is submerged in. If there is fluid in the clutch housing it's because the clutch failed.
