Hello Everyone,

I just recently did an overhaul on my 2011 Taurus Sho non pp brakes. I upgraded to the 13+ Sho Heavy duty rotors, calipers, Backing plates and pads also flex hoses into the rear calipers. I did break a rear speed sensor that has put an ABS & TCS light on the dash, the new speed sensor is suppose to come shortly so I can fix it.

The issue I'm having is when I accelerate quick then press the brakes the cars brake pedal goes hard and stays high making grinding noises and wont let me stop unless I pump the brakes or until it decides to let me stop. Any time I accelerate in drive or reverse same thing happens. If I drive slow no issues but the moment "boost" is applied the car wont brake at all unless I pump it or it decides to stop. I read that the 13+ brake upgrade doesn't require a new brake booster or master cylinder. The brakes were bled and fluid is full. The brake pedal isn't soft but doesn't feels like it could become firmer. No leaks anywhere and No vacuum leaks that I'm aware of car was fine before swap. Car also Idles fine doesn't drop rpms when pressing the brakes.

My questions are:
Has anyone had this issue when upgrading to the 13+ brakes? if so what was the fix?
Is this due to the broken rear speed sensor causing the ABS & TCS light maybe messing the car up?

Any help is appreciated!
Thank you
Scott

I haven't done this conversion, but sounds pretty sketchy. Your brief description kinda points to a possible issue with the booster or loss of vacuum, but might be something else entirely. Did you connect all lines back up and/or disconnect anything in the engine bay? That small hose that pushes onto the ****** on the intake track right after the air cleaner goes to the booster, I believe. Check that that hasn't popped off for some reason. But regardless, be careful and I don't think I'd drive this thing until.you iron out the issues. Wish you luck and keep us updated...

You are correct, it goes into the 3 way check valve and splits between the brake booster and the intake manifold.

If you're grinding, it sounds like a mechanical issue from the swap. To me it sounds like you have a bubble that won't compress and your brakes are just barely touching the pedal. Does the car pull one way or the other if you brake hard?

However, the fact that it DOES engage when you pump the brakes, this makes me lean toward the possibility of the sensor, as a sensor fault would put the ABS system into a limp mode.

Be safe, minimize driving until that sensor is changed, then report back.

We also just had an isuue with an owner that swore his brakes were bled correctly and done over and over and always looked legit but the brakes still didn't operate properly. One stop at a local shop for bleeding with proper equipment and everything seems to have cleared up.

Thank you for the responses everyone. I looked around for loose connections found nothing. So I decided to pull the broken ABS sensor off and test it without the sensor and it was fine. The sensor must have been telling the car to do something weird! The new speed sensor came in so I was able to swap it out seems to be gone now. I'm assuming the broken sensor was causing the issues as it is completely gone now. I will have to take it slow the next few days and see if it comes back.

This upgrade has made a really big difference in braking performance! I definitely recommend the swap to anyone with stock 10-12 brakes.

I wouldn't have messed around with that car with a broken ABS sensor. I mean no offense but if you could drive the car without it then there wouldn't be a need for it.
