Hey everyone. I own a 2010 SHO that I’m building and today, I picked up a 2011.

The 2011 has 196,*** miles. Definitely a lot. With that being said, it has had oil changes every 3k. The car runs really well. It shifts really well. However, it doesn’t seem to have much power. It just seems weak. The oil is clean. The coolant is clean. It doesn’t shudder under acceleration. There is no smoke from the exhaust. I’m baffled. The only DTC’s are for an 02 sensor and fuel level sensor.

If it helps I bought it for $500 with an incredibly clean body and interior. The gentleman even delivered it from 45 miles away.

Help!!!! Please!!!

Those valves might be very mushroom coated with oil. Get a cheap endoscope from Amazon - remove the map sensor on top of the intake and take some pics - just get one set of valves on left and right. Will give you a good idea how bad.

@lcasada hahaha - I forgot my before link

Here are mine at 28K, that's nothing if people don't use good or approved detergent oil as well as top tier gas or adding gas additives, those valves can be very clogged at 200k even with all that I wrote.

I appreciate your feedback. The car drives fine, it just doesn’t have the power it should. My gut says it’s turbo related, only because it runs so smoothly otherwise.

Start looking for vacuum leaks around the plastic charge piping, start taking them off, check the intercooler for oil build up.

Awesome! I’ll do that next week. Is there any way to know if my turbos are working properly without taking them off?

Most - only one goes to the rear turbo and is a bitch, the one from the throttle body to the IC then send the endoscope I would get one and send it down the IC or get a plastic tube and stick it down and see like a dipstick where the oil comes up to

Use a scan tool and check boost. I'm guessing, that with no codes, the turbos are acting as the computer expects them too.

I was thinking the same thing. I’ve never owned SHO’s until now. Maybe I just had the wrong expectation as to performance…?

Fair to say on an aging SHO a 0-60 could be 5 secs. Those turbos should be pushing the car through the speed ranges as well

Thanks Krypto. I’ll order a good quality bidirectional scanner today and go from there. Any suggestions?

I do understand that catch cans are very important. Can you elaborate why so in this instance please?

Catch cans will collect the oil vapors recirculated PVC by products of combustion. These same deposits build up like cholesterol in your circulatory system, clogging the air intake valves and other areas that recirculate burnt by products. CCs will help with collecting these dirt deposits allowing the engine not to build up large amounts of oil in the charge pipes IC and many other places.

I definitely appreciate it. Hopefully I can figure out what’s going on. Having this engine rebuilt is pretty pricey

Speak to Steve at UPR - his neighbor Jason sent ya, he will get ya hooked up, they have single side - dual side and dual catch can setups for our years. Tell Steve the budget - get mine a dual side - left side and right side CC.
