i just bought a 2011 sho yesterday and I just now notice it makes this tap noise at idle. When the a/c is on you can't really hear it outside the car. The noise isn't too loud but it's noticeable. What could it be? The car does have high miles. 106k

Pull that plastic cover off and see if it's coming from the high pressure fuel pump. If it is then it's perfectly normal.

The cover may be missing from the high pressure fuel pump? You will definitely know better after pulling the appearance cover off, like SilverSHO said. But so far it does sound quite normal otherwise. There is a hum in the video that I can't identify, may be from the radiator fans running?

Dwayne, you can hear this with the hood closed? Have you change the oil & filter since you got the car? Did you buy it from a Ford dealership/did they change it already? At a minimum, put in Motorcraft SynBlend 5W30 and a Motorcraft FL500S filter. Better oil would be a quality full synthetic like Amsoil Signature, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, etc.

I bought the car from a dealership where I work at so I know everything that's been replaced. They didn't change the oil since it's still a light color and yes you can hear it with the hood closed it isn't too loud. As far as the humming noise I'm sure it was the radiator fan.

It sounds like the normal high pressure fuel pump and direct injection noise to me. Mine has sounded about like that since it was new. With the hood closed, it is pretty muted and when inside the car with the windows up it is hardly noticeable.

My cover is in the garage collecting dust. I like to live dangerously. LOL

At least I'll know if my fuel pump ever has an issue. I can hear it clearly outside the car. Inside...only a tiny, tiny bit.
