Hello all.
My dads 2011 has not been driven for several months and when my sister went to start it, battery was dead. She tried to charge the batt without dissconecting the batt and heard a clicking sound. She shut off the charger and called me. I have been out of the car game for many years, Other than disconnecting the battery is there anything I need to know or look for on this car. I know this may sound like a dumb question but I have not worked on a car since I sold my 87 t-type 6 years ago.
Thanks in advance
Doug

Probably just relays getting power. As long as the charger is hooked up right, it should be okay. If there is a huge concern, the battery can be disconnected and then charged directly. It'll probably charge faster that way. Consider getting a battery tender.

My guess is that you need a new battery. EcoBoost Batteries are mid-range. Look at the eye on battery... If it isn't green... it's likely dead. Mine (2010 Flex) died last summer. If it won't charge... it needs to be replaced. Got my new one - best Motorcraft and higher AMP for around $130. at Ford dealer... They often have deals and warranty is best I've found.

Newer cars like the new SHOs have tons of electronics that are always powered, and a few relays that are always engaged. This is a) why batteries don't seem to last as long on new cars, and b) why you might hear a click when you hook a good battery up.

I have found that investing in a) a good battery tester and b) a good battery charger has made my life a lot easier over the years.
