Hello all, I just picked up a new set of aftermarket chrome rims for my 2010 SHO. Unfortunately it would cost me way more to have my stock rims refinished than it is to get new aftermarkets. When I called around to get prices on swapping my tires over, I learned that I may not have the usual valve stem style TMPS sensors that I am familiar with. The gentleman said I might have a band version that are one time use sensor. Is there any way to determine this without removing the tire from the rim? If I need new sensors, I would rather get my own, since I can get them cheaper than the $45 ea I was quoted on the phone. Thanks for any help!

What is the production date of your SHO? Early MY 2010s used band style sensors, later ones used stem style. You do not have to put band style sensors back on if you don't want to.

Usually a kit of 4 is on sale on eBay/Amazon for much cheaper than a single sensor alone. Sometimes less than $50 total!

I think all SHOs have sensor style TPMS. The easiest way to tell is the valve stem. If your car has TPMS sensors on the stem, the cap will be longer. When you remove the cap there will be threads, Smooth brass, then rubber.
If you have a band style TPMS sensor the cap is shorter and when removed you will see threads, rubber.

Well according to the Ford website, the build date on my car is 23.02.2010, but looking at the valve stems I see brass. I'll attach a photo.
Whomever owned this car before me was way rough on the suspension and rims. I have replaced every single suspension part in the front and the lateral links in the back. And then I just found out that both rims on the passenger side are not only scuffed up but bent too. Ugh! It's turning into a money pit getting this car fixed right!
The chrome rims I mentioned before are also bent, so I won't be using them either. I have decided to just get new rims (pictured below) and they will be in later this week. Hopefully that removes the shaking I now feel during acceleration. I'm assuming the old sloppy front end parts and poor alignment masked the vibration of the rims before.
Is there a specific set to order from Amazon that are guaranteed to work? I bought a set at Advance Auto for $160 but would love to get a set cheaper and return these. Thanks for the help so far!

Those valve stems are normal snap in and do not have sensors attached.
If you look at the link SHOdded attached the cap is much longer.
I do not have experience enough to know if the two are interchamgable, i but I do know there are two frequencies used in the snap in style. I don't know the part number difference or which is interchangeable (attached to the rim vs snap in).
I really don't understand why you just can't get 4 new bands and reuse the old sensors. Your going to have to break the wheel down to find out.
Because the sensors are already 8 years old, I think it's best in the long run to just install new ones with fresh batteries since the tires and rims will be in the perfect state to do so.

Well I got the new rims today and had the sensors installed that I ordered from Amazon.

However, the guys at Belle tire said it was next to impossible to get the car into pairing mode for the sensors, and that they were unable to get them paired up. So, did I get the wrong sensors, or is this something that the dealer is going to have to fix? I had a similar issue on my 2008 Yukon and had to use a GM Tech 2 to get them working. Any ideas? Thanks!

no, you got the right sensors. may just need to drive or get another store to do the pairing. i do recall there being a value in the pcm or tpms module that can be updated if the sensors continue to be stubborn. There are also walkaround training sessions you can do yourself, look on YouTube for Ford TPMS. No tooling required. Worth a shot.

It is kinda a bear to get our cars into training mode with The ignition switch. The ignition switch has to be cycled and in a certain amount if time. If you wait for the cluster to respond, you're going too slow. I find it's better to count out the needed button presses and press the brake when needed.
And IDS scan tool should also be capable to get the car into learning mode.
With the ignition off, press the brake.
Cycle the ignition three times ending in run. So to do that, you have to press the button 2 times, then a third for off (on my car). To cycle it three time that's 5 presses.
Press the brake again
Press the start stop one to turn the ignition off.
Cycle the ignition three times (5 button presses)
If you did it right, your car will honk at you.
So:
Ignition off, press the brake
Press the ignition 5 times (cluster on)
Press brake
Press ignition 6 times
Car should honk.
Don't worry about the seat moving or the cluster starting/shutting down. You may have to speed up/slow down.

Awesome! I'll try that tomorrow after I get out of work. Drove an hour back from the tire shop but no change in the connection. So I'll try the manual pairing first and worst case take it back to Belle on Friday. I'll update my post with what happens.

Sure, I'll post a picture probably tomorrow once I get a day off and can wash it first. I checked here in MI about getting my stock rims refinished and was told that I'd be looking at at least $700+ after they removed the old finish and powder coated them again. That didn't include removing and remounting the tires. So by the time I was done, it was the same price basically to get brand new rims. Not to mention, 2 of my stock ones were bent by the previous owner, so that made the decision that much easier.
For the life of me, I cannot get this car into relearn mode. My brake switch went bad in the process and was stuck on. I replaced that this morning, but still no luck. I followed the directions you posted above and also watched a few YouTube videos. It just will not work. Can I get a handheld programmer or does it still have to be put into this mode? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I snapped a quick picture for you today. Ignore the dirt, I haven't been able to wash it with the rain we've been getting here. I do think I'm going to either swap the black lug nuts for Chrome or red. I think it looks too dark.

If you use a factory scan tool it bypasses the need to press the button and brake pedal.
