Not really a fair comparison when the 300C platform is several years old; same as the old 500 based Taurus, and the 300c is completely redesigned for 2011.
Only 1 mpg better mileage with ecoboost over the hemi in real world driving, the 300c has a 5 speed running 450 rpm more at cruising speed verssu the SHO 6 speed which more than accounts for that, so ecoboost is in reality a marketing fad.
Brakes gave out on the SHO quickly on the street but chassis and interior much better on the SHO. Should be interesting to see what the new 300C has to offer, as it is said to be a head turner and the curent model already uses a superior AWD system that is rear drive only unless needed.

Back in Michigan ... again.
I found this part very interesting....

Ford’s blend of refinement and speed, now match some of the best from Europe.

And this (referring to "losing confidence" in the 300C's suspension)....

The SHO however, had no such trouble. It feels bigger and heavier, but in the twisties, it’s more surefooted and has very precise steering. Once you bank the SHO into a turn, the body rolls just a little and it simply stays planted. Connect a few curves in the SHO and the size of this large sedan does seem to melt away.

Hmm... where have I heard these descriptions before?

Also, this car did not have the performance package, and they still ripped a 13.7. That's three publications now that have obtained similar performance :thumb: That's also three publications that have commented on the fuel economy, so I'm quite curious to see what kind of figures are obtainable when the cars aren't necessarily driven hard for a length of time.

And yes, another strike for the brakes. You listening Ford???

Thanks for posting this article!

21.8 mpg in the SHO is representative of their 1000 mile round trip between Pittsburg-Detroit; with the performance package final drive, the SHO will get worse gas mileage than the AWD 300C. The SHO is surprisingly a half second slower than the 300C from 40-70 mph which I would not expect. Another article quoting Ford Engineers; they say the SHO drivetrain should be good for up to 400 hp, so just another 35 ponies can be dialed up due to the trans most likely.
OVerall build quality looks to be world class, but brakes are a needed upgrade right away.

my parents are waiting for the new Taurus to come out. I told them to look at it before buying a 300 Limited, and they were planning on just buying it this month but with the cash for clunkers thing coming soon they figured they'd wait. They aren't looking at SHO's though, only able to afford SEL's and Limiteds :/
