hey everyone. Im fairly new to the world of the SHO. I just picked up my 93 MTX back in late April and finally have it on the road after numerous repairs including the 60k tuneup (new clutch, belts, spark plugs, spark plug seals, right front half shaft, radiator fan, oil seals, and water pump in addition to cleaning everything I took apart). Everything that i fixed works great. Unfortunately these arent the only repairs that i will need to make. Most importantly this thing burns oil like gas. Like 1 quart every 300 miles. Im pretty sure its the valve seals (very little blow-by and most oil burned in high vaccum conditions) but havent run compression test yet. I am looking for advice from some SHOers who can possibly give me some additional info. Secondly and somewhat less important perhaps is the seeming lack of power. I have never driven a SHO b4 but right now it doesnt seem like a 15 sec car. In addition there seems to be a hesitation in power, especially in first, where it doggs and then takes off right around 3k. I know for a fact that the butterflies are working correctly. In my trying to diagnose the problem myself i came to the conclusion that the hesitation in power could be from bad O2 sensors and the overal loss could be from clogged cats. Does anyone have any suggestions? I apologize for the length of the post and would like to thank anyone in advance for taking the time to reply.

You need to replace your valve stem seals if you are burning that much oil. Check the codes. You might very well need O2 sensors or have a clogged cat. Welcome to the forum. thumb

yeah im pretty sure too that the valve seals are causing the problem with the oil. I know the previous owner didnt take care of the car very well b4 he fried the cluth (no bearings left in the throwout...lol) but luckily he had it only 3 months. I thought i had fixed all oil leaks with the spark plug seals and various other oil seals but now it seems im gonna hafta take the whole damn thing off again headbang . Ive been browsing the forum for awhile and have noticed several other people with the same low end power loss problem. The solutions seem to be different for each one although i do think i need new cats regardless. If anyone (ahem...scott...ahem :D ) can give me something more specific based upon my other symptoms it would be much appreciated. Thanks again for everyones once again. finger

Another update on my lack of power issue. Today was a nice day to cruise so i took her out for a little drive on the freeway. I was going about 75 and throw it into 3rd to have a little fun while passing someone. I was quite disapointed...it seemed like the tach needle was struggling to get to 6k (i dont want to redline it). And the speedometer was just as slow creeping up. From my limited knowledge this continues to point to clogged cats. Am i right?
