1999 Spedometer Question

Hi all. Just looking on ebay and saw a nice looking 99

Anyway, as I was looking through the listing I saw the shot with the spedo. It only goes to 120. Is that right. I havent had my 98 for a while, but Im sure it goes to 140 or 150

Is this standard on the 1999.

well it is being sold be alpineREBUILDERsomethingorother, perhaps it was damaged and replaced with a '99 duratec cluster, because thats what that is... or perhaps it came like that, wouldnt surprise me with the '99 deletes by Ford... who knows really, im gonna have to suggest asking the seller,but play dumb when you do. maybe say something like "i thought SHO's could go up to 150 mph, but this speedo only goes to 120, do you konw anything about this?" or jsut straight up ask him why it has a 120 speedo in there.

that IS a SHO tach however...interesting... i guess it came from the factory like that

i wonder why that passenger vent is missing, i noticed that on another g3 SHO i was looking at a few days ago, i mean who takes one vent out

and finally, i took note of how the seller is located in new jersy while the car has a PA tag in the rear window.

looks like a nice car, why are all the good cars so far away from me

I just bought a 99 sho with 105k on it and was suprised also to see that it had a 120mph speedometer. it also doesnt say premium fuel recommended either on the tach. but it has the silver trim just like the link above too. this is my first ford and just one of the wierd things about it. ford must have gotten cheap and just put the standard speedometer in there who knows.

i'm new too and have appreciated all of the great info!

I could buy a SLO speedo off eBay for cheap and slip it in a SHO in under 10 minutes. I would beware as it probably is a speedo for some other junk Taurus.

my '99 with a manufacture date on the door panel of "May 1999" has the 150mph speedo with the silver trim.

You should run a carfax on it to see what the ownership and mileage records are. There were some SHOs with a Canadian cluster but I've never heard of one with a 120 mph speedo. I think it's been switched.

My 99 has a 150 mph speedometer. I too think somebody swapped it in there for low mileage. Buyer beware!

I would guess you that have a 120 speedo. They have a late build date and they used up all the 150's right at end of the run so they didn't have any left over when the SHO run was done, and started using 120's.

What are the build dates on your doors of the people that have 120's?

Alright did some research and it turns out the car was shipped and sold in ontario to the ministry of transportation. it was there until 2002 when it was sold and then was imported into the U.S. Still doesnt really explain 120mph speedometer instead of 150.
carfax was clean though and it had never had any problems reported. or odometer problems. it has the 8k tachometer and i'm going to try to include a picture.

i could use some help in finding the sticker that might have a build date on it too, i'm new to ford so any help is appreciated.

If it was sold in Ontario it would have had a metric speedo. Perhaps the person importing installed an American speedo either because he wanted to or because he was forced to by import laws. It's probably easier to find a SLO speedo in a junkyard.

Open up your drivers door and look on the end where the latch is. Let us know what it is?

Yup, that was me. Next time around I won't be drinking compressor oil. I've been told. I sure made the hotel room smell bad if you know what I mean.

My 99 has the 150 with the red needles/silver trim. I've taken mine to 144mph....on the dyno.
