NAPA sells the regulator and if they won't test an alternator for you I know AutoZone will in most states.

Regulator is the only part one CAN change to service a V8 SHO alternator. If I recall, it is stupid simple - like 3 or 4 screws on the back of the alternator.

Getting the Alt. out is the hardest part.

Would you recommend him? I have a alternator that needs a regulator and needs to be tested.

I probably would recommend him! "The Rebuilder" in Kent, on Central Avenue. He rebuilt mine for $86 and probably put another $40 into parts+labor repairing it this go-round, however he didn't charge me anything because it was within 1 year of the original rebuild. Even if I have problems down the road out of warranty and have to pay for another rebuild, it would still be cheaper than a new one @ $193...

I did the same thing (rebuilding one) no one keep them anymore. But SHOZ123 had a good idea : a heat sheild. It is too near from exhaust on V8, rear bearing and regulator suffer of that. I put one just in case. It may be a good investment.

If you guys didn't know, the surge tank and intake runners in that picture are coated in Jet-Hot or something very similar. ( http://www.jet-hot.com/)

That is special stuff, not just shiny gray paint. It has something in it like fine ground ceramic and it insulates like a star. I used Jet-Hot industrial coatings in my last job and worked with some of their folks with some abusive Ultra Violet curing lamps. We were putting out over 30,000 watts per lamp. Anything near the lamp gets roasted. Hard to mount something when it annihilates anything within 6" of it. 1/8" aluminum plate would burn through at 1/8" in 10 minutes at a focal point. The mounting equipment kept sustaining heat damage even out of the focused areas.

We went to Jet-Hot and started getting our mounting hardware coated with a product very similar in appearance to the stuff on those intake parts. Our mounting issues were over. That stuff is exceptional at rejecting heat.

I recieved my Deluxe Marti Report for Barney today! shows 81 or 85 produced in Rose Mist Metallic, extremely close to our 86 count we have now so I will go back through my list and run every VIN on it through ETIS to double check and see, I believe there is one graphite car in there somewhere, LOL. This number is certified by Ford through Marti Auto Works so we can now take it as concrete and certifiable information! :D

I already double checked all in Etis, the result is 86. Maybe Marti skip one... The difference in the number for the trim (81) is coming from right driver side ones because all was reversed and the colour is purple but we count only 2 on our list...

It's great to know that Marti counts 5 030 SHOs for 1996, it may be the more precise production number for this year.

Considering the numbers are certified by Ford I would trust them more than any list we had already created. I will triple check my list then.

If we want to debunk the numbers on the build sheets, I think we may have a simple way. Especially simple for Rosemist owners.

Look at line 91 6 in the report I just posted. It calls for exactly 3 JBL sound systems.

I have a JBL sound system in my 'Documented' Rosemist SHO. That leaves only 2 more cars possible if the list is true. If 3 more people on this registry can come forward and confirm that they have factory JBL sound systems in their cars, then it would be possible to assume that any of the other numbers could be suspect as well.

EDIT -
I already verified one 1996 Rosemist owner over on TCCA that has the JBL system. That's 2 out of three already. I believe we can verify 2 more.

Count me in, I have the JBL system.

Mine has the JBL.
And Notaurious aka Matts has the JBL.
I believe more than just 3 RM have it.
Yep, we've debunked it, that whole Ford Performance sheet is so wrong on many levels. First, it shows total '96 SHO production @ 4069, my certified Marti Report shows 5030 total '96 SHO production.

Hi,

Sadly, I found a link that I will not want to find...

After a small side hit on his car in a parking, it seems that Josh decided to sell his car. I rode some things on that but never see the annoncement until today (confirmed by VIN).

Farewell Josh, we will miss you, thanks for the help for this Rose Mist registry. Hope all is good for you and your car will find a good owner too.
