So tomorrow I am planning on buying a 1995 Green SHO MTX 45,000 that is perfect except for 2 tiny scratches and is loaded. He wants $6000 for it and is his personal vehicle and owns a dealership. He got as the original owner passed away and willed it to his some who turned it directly over and and sold it to the dealer owner. It has had the clutch replaced and comes with 2 brand new sets of tires on SHO rims for summer and winter. Will I be over paying for it as it seems so steep for a 18 yr old car? There is a few people viewing and sorry if this is not the right spot to post but I need advice and who better then the owners themselves. Any help would be very appreciated. Car was go through by an experienced SHO mechanic and the only thing needed and complete was he cleaned the manifold. Advice appreciated on price and ownership. I currently drive 1998 Honda Coupe EX V6 and would sell it for this.

If its well maintained , its a good price , if its as good as you say. Good rust-free SHOs are getting hard to grab , Specially true for the northerners.

Welcome in BTW.

Zero rust just 2 small scratches. Things don't rust much here in Alaska fortunately, they just freeze with the -50 bellow. So is there a problem with the 5 speeds dropping 3rd gear in these cars?

well, I am a cheap old sob, but I would not pay $6k for an 18 year old car. especially in green.

however, if you really want a low miles SHO, that is likely a decent price - maybe on the high side with $5k on the low side for those miles and the condition you describe.

the thing is, even with low miles, it likely needs all the routine maintenance - cam seals, valve seals, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, etc. because age as important as miles in the condition of those various 'rubber' pieces.

Sounds like an awesome find!
The 3rd gear problem only occurs when you start making more than about 350hp and driving it like its stolen.
If the car is in as good of shape as it sounds i think youve found a pretty rare gem.

you'll love it. $6K sounds like a bargin for a AK hot car. They're not common in the lower 48. They get great gas mileage for your wide open spaces - and you'll have time to save your money for the 60K engine refresh.

Have him throw in the next 2 service intervals with the sale price (since he has a dealership) and get a block heater installed, and try to get the price down a little if possible. I just had an insurance claim on a 95 MTX (great condition but lots of miles) and I got the princely sum of $2,250.00. So look into a special arrangement when you insure it (as a matter of fact, look into that first and see if it can be done).
We need pictures.

I speak from experience I wouldn't touch that car. To be honest if the car had around 145K or more on it I'd say go for it. 45K is too little miles. I bought one of these a while back with just over 100K didn't drive it much. EVERY spring I fired it up something new would go wrong with it. Cars need driven plain and simple and 45K; says its been everything but driven. I have an 02 Maxima 6spd with 182K on it all I have done to the car is put breaks on it (not even a clutch). You do what you want but I would walk right by that car unless all you want to do with it is look at it in your garage or your mechanic's shop.
