if you open the passenger door, look near the hinge and you'll see a numeric code. for example...if you open the door on my 95 MTX, you'll see XJ2 (or is it X2J?). that's the ecu code for that car. my question is, how does the seller know it needs a new computer?

Don't buy it until you can take an X2J (even a loaner) and swap it out to make sure it actually is the computer. It's more than likely the harness or a sensor.

The seller said that he replaced a lot of parts till finally a shop told him it was the computer. I would have to drive 2 hours to get it so my friend said the same thing that i need to bring a computer with me and hook it up. Car is in mint condition black on black, new struts all the way around also say he has extensive service records. Sho123 i should be able to get a computer but if i cant ill let you know.

Is it running with the allegedly faulty ECU or with a replacement working one? If it didn't run with the old one and it runs with the new one, I say go for it.

I just threw out an X2J because it was fried, made the car miss and just ran terrible, threw in an LOS and all was well. So don't count out a bad computer.

IRCM/CCRM (fuel pump control) ?
CPS ?

Rod bearings ? Don't drive it!

The bogging is eaxctly what mine was doing when I rescued it, and it was the first two conditions I mentioned above...

But a clean black on black SHO would be worth having it towed or transported home (IMO anyway).

Does the oil light flicker? If it doesn't flicker going down the road rodbearings should be fine! I would start with cleaning the maf, and changing the 02's plugs and all of that first!

I saw this car on the Chicago area craigslist and was going to check it out if it was closer (since it was a black/black MTX); found an ECU on Ebay for 75 bucks. I'm actually going to Chicago next week for work but not really looking for another SHO at this point in time.

Good luck with it. If I were you, I'd pick it up if you can get it running AND if a bearing hasn't spun. IIRC he didn't want that much for the car.

Ok so we had to trailer the car home. But the car will not take any throttle, will rev up to 2500,3500 rpm the first time you start the car then just bog back down to 600 rpm and stay their. When you push on the gas it acts like its wants to suck in air but doesn't. it idles rough but a few times got it to rev up to 4500 rpm it smooths out and sounds mean.

So far we have replaced the spark plugs ( plug wells were full of oil, cleaned out) check wires were in right place ( look new) seems to have good spark from the coil pack. Previous owner replaced mass air flow, coolant temp sensor ,cut all the cats off res to, trying to find out what was wrong with car witch ended up being the computer. Car is also hard to start.

Have tried unplugging tps, mass air flow still no difference at all. also had that distributor thingy on left intake tested, tested fine.

Also after running for long time oil light will come on steadily at idle goes off soon as you give it gas. It makes a loud noise from left side of engine and also feel something tapping left side of intake manifold but not on the timing cover. It sounds like maybe two noises like maybe bad bearings on the water pump and the other sounds like its coming from top of the motor. Sorry for the long post but right now have the intake off to replace gaskets check valvetrain and check timing chain (make sure its align right ,previous owner said it has been replaced) Somebody please point me in the right direction what should i check next? Thanks

Also seems to have good fuel pressure.(previous owner says fuel pump has been replaced)

This car is ridiculous clean (cleanest ive ever seen) black on black with white gauges:hail: The interior is cleaner then brand new seriously. all the buttons for the air and radio look brand new,its like this car time traveled from 93 to 09.
