I found some 18's that I really want to get, but they are only 7.5 wide. I start to think this might be a good thing as far as wheel well clearence goes. But Do you think 7.5" is not wide enough for an 18" wheel? Also recomendations on tire size? I was thinking 225/45/18 or 235's.

Thanks for the help.

Dude, go for it. The width of the wheel has nothing to do with the diameter. You don't have to have a 10" wide wheel if you wanted it 20" in diameter. 7.5" is probably the best width, will give you a wide footprint and rarely has rubbing issues. I've had both 7.5 and 8" wide wheels, both without problems. And I would highly recommend a 235/40 18" tire to go on that wheel.

Is the wheel well the same as the other gen 1's? I have a '90 and am thinking about 17's if I decide to do the brake upgrade. I'd like to know about your fitment experience and whether you have to trim the metal. What is the offset of the new wheels. I think that has more to do with fitment than anything else.

I didn't think it would be a huge deal. Now I am really excited to get these wheels, because they are white too, and will match my car nicely.

luigisho: I'm not sure on offset, I emailed the guy today to find out.

Thanks for the help guys.

I agree with this. However, this wasn't a needed topic because it wasn't addressed as a problem. The correct offset is definitely an issue, but with respect to whether the width is appropriate to the wheel diameter, I say that is not relevant and a 7.5" wide wheel is ideal.

I have 18x7.5 on my 1993 Sho they are on 225/40/18 and have no problems i also had the same wheels on my 1989 SHO and had plenty of clearance. With Eibach springs. So your worry is a minimum. The only thing that I suggest is to stick with 225/40/18 cause they are the largest tires that is recomended for that rim. I have had many wheel shops tell me to stick with that rim. Not unless you want the tire to fold over and look too fat for the tire.

I absolutely disagree. While the wider the rim, the better the same tire will handle, going to a 235/40 18 will work fine, will look fine, no overhang at all. it will handle just as well. I've spoke with many who agree that a 235 width tire works well with a 7.5" wide wheel. And 235/40 18 will be closer to the stock tire diameter.

P.S. My first wheel was a MOMO 17x7.5" The tire I ran was a Yokohama AVS Intermediate 235/45 17. Worked awesome. Then had Yokohama AVS S1-Z 235/45 17. Worked awesome.

Well, the offset on these wheels is 40, so it looks like I'm getting them. Except one thing, I can't afford tires until I sell my slicers. Oh well.

Thanks for the help guys! thumbs_u

You can go to 235's, I know becuase I have that on my SHO with 17" rims. 235/45/17. There is just enough clearance and you won't have to adjust the speedo with 17" rims. You may have to push the lip on the wheel well up a little to provide a level of comfort.

Actually 235/45/18 will be closer to the stock wheel diameter but look fugly with the larger wall. So I am running 235/40/18 Pirelli P7000SS they fit nicely on my 18x8 TD's Motorsports.

What tire size should I use on 18x7's? I just found a pretty good deal on some and I need to know what size tire will look right. Car is pretty stock except for 96 brake upgrade.

Thats a pretty tall height/width combo of a 18" rim, but you can pull off 235/40/18 but the rim will looked a little like its pushing on the tire. Go with 225/45/18 if you wanna play it safe and dont mind having a bit less rubber on the pavement.
