With the obvious problem of the stock Slicer being that it's a 16x6 wheel I have been looking in to getting them widened. I love the Idea of being able to fit a 245 on a 16'' wheel and let alone a Slicer. I contacted a company called weld craft wheels and enquired about the cost of widening the stock 16x6 Slicer.

The Price that [email protected] quoted me is 185 Dollars per wheel and the turn around time is about 3 weeks.

The wheels would be widened from the center so I'm not sure how bad the offset would be off but I just thought I would throw it out there.

Here is a Link.

Who's going to be the first? :naughty:

that would be fantastic. Too bad you could get better looking rims for that much cash....maybe.

I agree. However some people love the look of the stock Slicers, I know I do but the idea of being able to run a max of a 225 Tires safely is annoying. I'm not worried about brakes as my 12'' Baer kit works great. One wheel I wish I could get my hands on however are some ROH Snypers in a 16x8.

Eric had these on the car before I bought it off him. I would have given a Kidney to have them on the car when I bought it.

You'd have to run some spacers to keep the tire/wheel off the strut.

Yeah with 235s they are about 1/4 inch off the strut housing and rib a lilttle bit on the plastic inner fender. So with the same offset, it'll rub for sure.

I'm going to be honest, I don't like those wheels at all. Something doesn't look right. What is so special about them that you like them so much? Maybe I'm missing something...

I had thought about this in the past, but never looked into it. There used to be a guy that went to the Englishtown swap meet(manyshos knows who I'm talking about), that had a C4 vette wheel that was probably 3ft wide, to show what his company did.

I never looked into it because welding cast aluminum isn't the easiest thing to do and I'd be worried about the weld breaking from stress.

Thinking real quick here, in order to keep the same offset as stock, wouldn't you have to run a spacer equal to the amount the wheel was widened? Too bad width can be added to the front of the wheel. Slicers with a lip could look nice.

The appeal is they are 16x8. A 16x8 wheel that fits the SHO is as rare as hen's teeth now-adays. Those ROH Snypers are the only ones I can think of and they haven't been made in years.

There's a bunch o 16x7.5" wheels for the sho around isnt there? is that extra half inch that important?

I absolutely love the way they look. A 5 spoke wheel a nice lip like that is exactly what I want for my SHO. Plus, The fact that they are 16x8 kicks ass.

To each his own.

From my point of view, the ROH Snypers were lightweight; about 17 pounds in 16 X 8, they were low pressure cast, heat treated, used pressed-in steel inserts in the lug holes, and were more then adequately load rated for use with sticky road race tires on a heavy sedan. They were a very high quality wheel, one of the few in 16 X 8 that were readily available in the SHO bolt pattern and offset. Can't recall exactly, but I think I gave $175 a wheel for them.

I think they look *******'. I have two sets. :)

Friend of mine had 17 X 8 Snypers on a Gen III SHO and it was a very good looking package.

The Snypers do look much better if they're going fast.

16X8 slicer's would be awesome!!! I wouldn't want to run any spacer's unless absolutely necessary.

If a 6" wide Slicer is widened to 8" using the method proposed by the OP, running a spacer would be absolutely necessary.

Weld Craft Wheels' widening technique adds the additional 2" of width entirely on the back side of the wheel, behind the spokes. I can't recall the OEM Slicer offset, but if we assume for a moment that it's Zero (I know, it's not Zero...), meaning the wheel mounting pad is centered in the 6" width, then the offset becomes +1" if we add 2" to the backside - we'd need to run a 1" spacer to re-center the wheel.

Adding width behind the spokes changes the offset positive by Added Width/2 The wheel is going to move seriously inboard unless a spacer is used.

Slicer offset is 42mm.
Thank you.

O.K., so if we add 2" to the backside of the wheel, the new offset is 42mm + 25.4mm = 67.4mm To get an 8" wide wheel on a SHO needs an offset between 35 and 38mm, so you're going to need a spacer somewhere between 29.4 and 32.4mm. Essentially, well over an inch.
