How much do the 13" rotors weigh? Also, does anyone know the weight difference between the '96 brake upgrade and the stock rotors for a 1st gen SHO?

This is from a post a while back in the suspension upgrades. I think it answers your question.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The front brake rotors weights are as noted below;
stock OE '94-95 10.88" 15.50 lbs
stock OE '96-99 11.58" 17.05 lbs
stock OE '94-00 13" Cobra/Baer/PBR 19.51 lbs
Baer "EradiSpeed" 2-pcs 12.99" replacement rotor 16.58 lbs

As far as the calipers, mounting brackets and pads

stock OE '94-95 combo 12.91 lbs
stock OE '96-99 combo 13.37 lbs
stock OE '94-99 13" Cobra/Baer/PBR 8.73 lbs

As you can see the 13" front Cobra/Baer/PBR brakes with the light weight Baer 2-pcs rotors actually weights 3.1 lbs LESS than the stock '94-95 brakes and 5.1 LESS than the stock '96 brakes. Even without the VERY expensive light weight 2-pcs Baer rotors the stock 13" Cobra/Baer/PBR setup still weights about 0.2 lbs LESS than the stock '94-95 brakes. One thing to keep in mind is than the 13" brakes require larger and heavier 17" rims and tires

I just did the front brakes on my wife's 99' Windstar SEL and noticed it has twin piston calipers and really big rotors. Has anyone tried the Windstar bakes on a SHO? I think they have the same bolt pattern. I would image that the Windstar parts are cheaper and more plentiful than Cobra parts.
Just a thought.

Hey Blast,
I'm in Rochester too, we should meet up sometime and sho off our rides. Email me @ [email protected] if you want to.
What color is your SHO? Do you have any exterior mods? I only ask because I do a lot of driving and see a few SHO's here and there.

Ask Eric S. (SHOTIME) he just recently did the upgrade, problem is that they don't fit in the SHO slicer wheels, its just barely fits in his SVT wheels, but it sure stops on a dime

I think windstars come only with a 15 inch wheel. I'm thinking the brakes couldn't be all that big if they have to fit under 15's.

I have a question?.... I have the 13" rotors from the 96 cobra and the pbr baer calipers and I assume the brackets are from a 96 cobra. (I bought the set together so I don't know what the brackets are off of, but I assume they are stock cobra brackets) My question is.... Why can't we just buy a big brake kit for the cobra and then have the hats redrilled? I see 6 piston wilwood kits with 2 piece rotors and lines for $1300. Doesn't that seem like a good deal?

I thought that the '95-99 Windstars used the same 10.9" front brakes as the '94-95 SHO and '96-01 SLO Taurus, but I could be wrong.

I have the Wilwood 6 piston calipers and 13.1 rotors and they have INCREDIBLE clamping force. MUCH better to me than the Baer setup on my "other" car.

My wife's 99' Windstar SEL has 16" wheels and also the hi-output 3.8L (200hp/240tq woohoo). The rotors are huge at least 12".

Jason, I've been meaning to ask you: How do the new Wilwoods compare to your old 4 piston setup? Were you using 13.1 " rotors on the old setup or 12.2"? Unless there is just some wild and crazy difference, I'll probably go with 12.2 and 4 piston for myself to save a few bucks and a few lbs. My car is always going to be far more mild than yours. But shoot, it's not a big leap in price to the 6 pistons, do you think I should bypass the 4 piston 12.2 in favor of the bigger setup? Remember, I still have 10.2" brakes and I'm still waiting on my hawk HPS pads (currently got crap stock pads on warped rotors).

Oh yeah, another reason I think the 4 pistons might be better for me is I'd like for my tire mileage to not go *completely* to ****. I might be tempted to do 100mph to 0 stops on the highway all the time just for kicks! :D

Let me know, oh wise one!

Rick

Thanks
