Hey all. I've always loved SHO's and finally picked one up of my own. It's a beautiful red 93 atx with full black leather. The car has been maintained very well. The interior and exterior are nearly flawless. Unfortunately, however, the previous owners (I am the third owner) did not seem to know of the special attention the sho engine need. AFAIK a proper 60k has never been done to this car and the odo is approaching 140k. I was planning on buying the "Gold" 60k kit from shoshop.com. I just found this forum and have been spending much time searching through it and I notice a general dislike for SS. So, my question is, without going through SS, what is the best plan for obtaining parts/tools for the maintainance? I need to get my baby in shape so I can get to spending way too much money on mods! :)

Definitely avoid the SS for these parts you can get MUCH cheaper elsewhere. Use the search feature and search for something like "60K maintanance". sdpatt did a great writeup on parts lists, sources, and pricing.

Where are you located? That may help us put you in touch with someone local who has all the tools on hand.

I just did a pretty comprehensive 120k on my car, which included:

Timing Belt
Water Pump
Front Main Seal
Crank Position Sensor
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Intake Manifold Cleaning & new Gaskets
Valve Cover Gaskets
Valve Lash Adjustment

I also replaced my timing belt tensioner because the bearings were getting noisy.

Masho, I just tried searching for that writeup by sdpatt with no luck. Is it a thread started by him or a post within someone elses thread? From what you say it sounds like exactly the info I'm looking for.

AutoSHO, I'm in Blaine, MN which is about 15 minutes NW of Minneapolis. I'll go add that to my profile. :)

I've noticed people referring to the "front", "upper", "lower" maintainances. I have no idea what the differences are but I'd basically like to do every minute thing I can to be sure my sho is in tip-top shape.

If you look on my website (SHOPP, in my sig) there are full instructions for the 60k on an MTX (ATX has a few pretty minor differences), and updated parts list, and an article on general info on the 60k.

Bunch of other stuff too. :thumb:

One problem, I checked the OTC site for the tappet holder and compressor but they don't seem to carry them anymore. At least they don't list them on the site. Are these tools I could possibly find locally?

They do have them, just call and ask for them by the part number.

I will be putting a kit together soon if you're interested...

I'm definately interested in the tool kit for the right price. What all would be included exactly and how soon could you have it ready?

Tappet compressor and holder, shims, pick set, crank pully puller, etc...

When would you like to have it by? I've been trying to put it together but getting shims is a pain in the ****!

I'd like to have it as soon as you can get it together. Can you give me a ballpark timeframe/dollar amount?

I hate seeing my odo pull further and further away from 120k knowing that the car has never had the 60k done. :frown:

We'll i'm going to be looking for $50 - $60 to rent the kit, plus you have to pay for the shims you use.

I'm not sure on the timeframe, it depends on other people, it might be as long as a month :frown:

Price sounds fine to me, I'll take it! Let me know whenever it's ready and we'll take it from there. :)
