Very nice write up and they look great as usual. Just want to add that definately make sure you fold in those metal tabs otherwise the bulbs will fall out. Also, the bulb you got looks like this or like the second one?
31mm gs w wm
36mm 360 w wm

Not the 360 degree version, just the style of the bulb. I have the second one but your description says you bought the first one. Did you take any pics of it? They look pretty cool.

One question Mike...is this the same bulb you used in the license plate light except the 39 mm version.?

Yea I've had mine in there for about a month now and they haven't went out or anything so all is good. I bought a bulb style just like the stock light but with LEDs in it for the best fit. I think I'm all good as far as LEDs go. Have you done the interior yet?

Looking forward to the taillights. Are you planning on a whole retrofit? If so what kind of leds will you be using?

Just looked over the interior changes, dang I like the LED changes you've made, and the pictures and how to has given me the info I need to tackle these changes. Thanks, one last thing, if you have it handy could you e-mail or post the LED bulbs that you put in the interior so I can order before tackling the job. Thanks again Mike..you just got the mod but to bite me again...wasn't too hard after the Livernois tune.LOL

I'm strictly in a research mode right now as it pertains to the tails. The main issue is finding an LED set up that is bright even to compensate for my smoked tails.

That and I'd like to re-wire the upper bulbs so that when the brake pedal is pressed, both the upper and lower bulbs brighten in relation to the brake pedal being depressed. Currently, just the lower bulb is dual filament and wired differently than the single filament upper.

Also, factoring in relays and/or resistors (to prevent hyper flash) as well as where to place those relays/resistors is also a preliminary issue I've noticed so umm yea.....

Someday man, no rush at the moment. I have other performance related and other paint mods in the pipeline that I'd like to tackle first.

Thanks for the kudos on my write-up and funny you mention the entire "burning of one's retinas" cuz I pointed it out the LED's in the vanity mirrors to my teenage daughter when she hopped in the front seat today and her eyes popped out of her head (figuratively speaking) and she was like "woah Dad, those are a little bright"..... bwahahaha, good stuff.

Thanks UD for the props.

I am neat about my silicone use and I opted for that in lieu of the CA glue you mention due to the temp extremes we experience here in the Chi-Town metro area.

That and if, God forbid, I ever need to replace an LED down the road, opening up the housings would be much easier by way of cutting through the silicone rather than having to cut (or saw) open the assemblies a second time (if I opted for using the glue that is).

But to each his/her own. W/E works for your application is best.

The "how-to" write up is simply just to get people to that point.

But great suggestion indeed for those who may not feel comfortable rock'n the silicone to use the glue instead! So.....:thankyou:

If you want the best site to learn about led retrofits go to www.hidplanet.com and go to the led section. Guys like this hang out on the site.

Unless you do a full retrofit you probably wont be happy with leds in the taillights. Elef bulbs have some potential but a retrofit will be 100x better.

One thing I forgot to ask. Does the led dim to on and dim to off? The oem lights have a dimming effect and wondering if the leds to the same thing.

FYI... The Flex has the same light under our mirrors so this "How TO" is good for all Flex's. My guess is that Lincoln's (MKS & MKT).....and likely the new Explorer, are also the same.

Great idea and terrific write-up!

You are rite as far as the MKS and Explorer go. The guy next to me installs those mirrors. They all look exactly the same, I'm almost willing to say that there all the same mirror. Idk 4 sure. But from 20ft, there the same lol.

We own a townhouse apt. rental complex there.

Wendy's (wife) sister Connie and her husband live in Loves Park, and have managed Shorewood for 17 yrs.

Rockford's economy is really in the dumper....

And... stopping in L.P. one or both ways from FL to IA and back makes the trips a business expense!!!!! (about 100 mi out of the way).

Have spent lots of time there over the years maintaining and refurbishing the 84 units. Feel like I am an Illini.... or should be!

(oops.... "GO HAWKS")

changing my web handle to "EcoBrick TAXED TO DEATH"....

Finished doing the first puddle lamp, Mike's instructions are spot on. I can't over emphasis taking your time and cutting slowly when removing the lens from the housing...it takes some time but being careful and cutting neatly makes reassembly much nicer. The LED's look awesome, much nicer then the regular lights...thanks again, Mike.
