Taurus sho ptu delete

I am looking at a 2010 sho that is 2k. Apparently the ptu is blown so it needs to be replaced. I was wondering what would happen if instead of replacing the ptu I dropped it and removed the intermediate gears. Basically make it rwd. Has anyone done this? And if so what issues were there? If not...
