Taurus sho ptu delete

I am looking at a 2010 sho that is 2k. Apparently the ptu is blown so it needs to be replaced. I was wondering what would happen if instead of replacing the ptu I dropped it and removed the intermediate gears. Basically make it rwd. Has anyone done this? And if so what issues were there? If not what could be an issue?
I don’t mind losing the awd, I’m just not sure if it would work, and I don’t feel like pulling the ptu multiple times.

If you get rid of the PTU, you will be front-wheel drive only. Might possibly end up throwing some codes.
