I have a 95 ATX with about 240,000 miles and yes it has the original transmission and motor. I bought it 5 years ago with about 112,000 miles. I change my oil every 6,000 to 10,000 miles with Mobil 1 and I flushed my transmission with Mobil 1 about 75,000 miles ago. It is a daily driver and I don't baby it at all. My only mods are high flow cats, dynamax exhaust, cold air intake, eibach springs with monroe sensatracs and my favorite mod 2007 Mustang GT front seats. My question is what maintenance should I take care of at this mileage. I did the timing belt 100k ago ( I know I have to do it again) and I just did my second set of plugs 20k ago. In my ownership I replaced the cam,& crank sensors and dis module. I'm pretty sure it has the original water pump too. I appreciate everyones input to help keep my baby running strong.

Kinda surprising the trans is still going!!! I guess If you take care of it, it'll take care of you! lol But a 60k is in order for your ride.

I'm pretty surprised myself with the trans. It still shifts perfectly and like I said I don't baby it, I really push the car hard everyday.

My 94 ATX has 255,000 with original trans. Daily driver, no mods. However 75,000 miles between trans flushes is a bit long. I do oil every 3000 and trans every 15,000. I don't use any synthetics. Castrol for both.

I agree with you need to do your 60K but more importantly Check your rod bearings. I did mine at 230,000.

60k and ATX don't mix. We call it the 100k :D. But yes, do what has been said above, and the car will love you until the tranny blows.

It's not very hard at all. The link posted above in the second post has instructions on how to do that too. If you're not inclined to do it yourself NESHO is not far from you, or maybe a few members out you way will be willing to help. In most cases for a few beers :)

I'm going to definately try to do it myself, I hate going to shops unless it's something I can't do or something I try to do and mess up lol. I haven't seen too many people on here from Mass so I'll most likely try it myself but if someone does want to help I have plenty of beer.

And then will cost a lot! ask me how I know that, And don't let your wife send a SHO to the shop. They charge double.

If you take a SHO to a shop and tell them you need the shims adjusted they'll look at you like you're nuts. I actually had a dealer tell me I was lying once when I first got into SHOs and tried to get some work done on it at a Ford dealer. NEVER take your car in for engine work(or tranny work if you can help it). Actually having anything done to your SHO besides an alignment or getting the AC serviced or something is just asking to get raked over the coals.

You can do the shims, VC gaskets in an afternoon and the front of the motor will probably take you all day(or all weekend if you've never done it). Just realize that the spark plugs for our cars are always a little too long compared to what they came with originally and the plug boots don't seal up all the way. I combated this by making o-rings out of black rtv for my plug boots so they sealed up properly.

Unless I had a heated garage I think I'd wait until it was a nice warm day to do the shims or the rod bearings. That's alot of time under the hood and under the car if it's your first time doing it. For the rod bearings, I would give it a long time to let the oil drip off the internals once the oil pan and windage tray are off. That stuff drips all over your face.

I did the shims in a set of carhartts in a non heated garage in 6 hours but I've done it before. I agree that for someone's first time take a whole weekend for the top end, a whole weekend for the front and probably another weekend for the rod bearings. I'd do the rod bearings first. There is a writeup on sho phoenix on how to do it but basically all you do is pull the Y pipe(easier said then done) and then pull the oil pan off after you drain it obviously. Then you just do the rod bearings one at a time and if one of the pistons on the rod you're changing is on the compression stroke then just button it back up, bump the starter and try again. Hey, at least we're lucky enough to have a car where the subframe isn't in the way of the oil pan coming off like on a mustang.

I don't know dude. I wouldn't touch rod bearings if you think you can't. Just don't jump into it. I did mine when I did the engine rebuild and the engine was on a stand. We did Andrew (ShoAmo's) like that too. We also have a good amount of experience with our cars and pretty much just flew through it in an hour.
