My carbon fiber hood seems to be slowly fading in some areas. Any way of treating the hood or maybe just getting it clearcoated from the body shop?

One way to fix the problem is to take the hood off, package it up, and send it to me! I'll keep it for a while, install it on my car, and let you know how it works out!:naughty:

the yellowing is attributed to the epoxy used to construct the hood, some types of eopxy don't hold up well to UV rays........

clear coating it won't hurt or help

waxing it won't hurt or help, whoever said u can't wax carbon fiber is a *******

the only thing that will fix it is to spray it a color........ sorry to inform u

I mean you could try to knock it down a lil bit with some abrasives and polishing compounds and hopefully the yellowing is just the surface... but its probably not, and in any event it would come back.......

The hoods from Carbon EFX, (all the gen2-3 hoods) are cleared already. Wax the thing. I haven't waxed mine in a while and now it's starting to fade, time to take it an the trunk/spoiler to the body shop for a light sand and clear.

Like others have said, the epoxy is fading from UV rays. Clearing the hood won't make the current fading go away, but if you use a clear that is UV blocking it won't fade anymore.
I'd take it to a body shop and have it sanded down a little and repolished, then spray it with a UV blocking clear.

hundreds upon hundreds of dollars

if u know how to sand and buff you could probably get it done to 100-200 bucks just to spray the clear

atleast at any body shop worth their asking price for work......

The roof panel on the new ZR-1 is CF. GM is using an effective UV compound mixed in the clear to prevent the CF breaking down and gradually becoming more brittle. They claim a verrrry high dilution rate, and a cost of 60k(yes dollars) per gallon of UV compound.:oogle:
