Can't Back Up

I bought 95 mtx and have fixed all but one problem. It shifts fine, but once I'm in reverse if I try to back up up hill the car shudders, it smells as if I'm burning the clutch plate, and it pops out of reverse in to neutral. I replaced the rear motor mount, which did not help. The car will back up on level ground with no problems. What should I be trying to replace?:thankyou:
