I have some extra cases, from some of my many busted transaxles. Let me see what I have laying around.

Just tighten up the case bolts a bit more and the diff will probably pop right out onto the bench. It just seems like with the transmission out and on the counter that it'd really be a waste to not at least put new roll pins in the trans i pick up.

I also assumed it'd be hard to find the case as so many are wrecked by ejecting diff pins
I've personally thrown away at least 30 MTX trannys in better shape than that one.
Anyway, you really have to ask yourself if after this debacle, you're really up to trying to replace a case half and get the transmission back together properly. I really, truly, believe that you're better off just finding another good complete tranny (have Beth go through it if it would make you feel better), and just install it and drive.

That depends on how much actual disassemble and reassemble there would be. From your response im guessing that there would be a considerable amount.

My first transmission job was also on my SHO, though I have had more transfer cases and differentials apart (intentionally and unintentionally) than I could shake a baby at.
It was indeed a lot of work, but I had some great guidance and knew when to call in a heavy hitter, professional transmission guy.
IMHO, there's nothing wrong with just replacing the broken half of the case, but make sure you can get your thrust washer settings right. When I do it with transfer cases, I use the trust washer that came from the new case half. If it's not there, I use the old one and pray. So far I have been lucky.
If you want to read about my transmission experience, go here:

and for all the pics and diagrams and stuff I used, follow this:

The other thing I recommend is to read everything you can (every thread in here that mentions transmission) and then understand why it broke and know what to do to put it back together without it happening again. Transmission repair is pretty complex, but it's not rocket surgery.
Good luck and keep us informed.

Don't throw the tranny away. Some of us FI guys can use it.
That first line made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.![]()

Brett, Dan and I are going to the J/Y on Saturday Morning and he says they have some SHO's there so I can look. Also there is a guy down here selling one on Craigs List, you pay for the Tranny and I might be able to convince the Old Lady to let me deliver it to you![]()
