Stock Strut Chrome Rod Turning Blue

I finally replaced my original struts (May 1991 SHO with 56,000 original miles) I installed the Monroe Sensa-Trac , my question is that one of the front struts on the chrome shaft was blue a few inches up and about an inch on long the shaft , I have never taken this car to a track , the right rear dampening was totally gone , what would cause the blueing.

I agree but the fronts had **** , they worked OK , I guess they had **** in them , but the back lost dampenening and was not blue , I assumed they were low on oil or lost most of the oil.

generally speaking, heat will cause steel to change colour, blue being one of the colours.

if it was heat that caused the colour change, then that strut rod reached ~ 550 degrees...

the strut is dead, the blue is because it lost **** and then the up / down motion it gets during driving heated the steel and blued it

replace it

Thanks agin for the info , all the old struts are in the trash , I was just curious about the blueing , I never knew that struts got that hot.

Are you sure that your mileage is 56K and not 156K?

I can blue steel in my oven at the house and it doesn't get anywhere near 550 degrees. Stainless steel will blue around 375 - 400 degrees F.

Are you sure that your mileage is 56K and not 156K?

I bought the car brand new so I know the miles are correct.
