possible to ID a clutch by simply looking?

All I can say is that it's blue, it's a Valeo pressure plate, and the disc itself appears to have double springs in it...two are shorter than the other two. I'll see what I can do about getting pics up.

Guesses, anyone?

I can tell you:

1. whatever it is, has less than 40k on it
2. it came out of a CM box

The previous owner of this car was meticulous in all aspects, but he neglected to tell me what clutch was on that box.

Blue is typically SPEC

A picture shoudl tell.

As far as I can remember, Clutchmasters is not blue (but it may have just been put in that box).

If it is an organic stock looking disk it is a stage 1. If it looks like a felt (kevlar) disk with sections removed, it is a stage 2, if it has six small copper looking pucks on the disk, it is stage 3.

A pic will confirm, but this is my guess.

Yeah....it's a solid disc. I've got a stage II in the car right now, so I remember what that disc looked like.

IIRC, clutchmasters are white, ain't they? i know my stage I was when I got it. I can't find any Spec badging or stickers on it anywhere, though....what would I look for?

Sho Shop Hi Rev Jr kit had a blue PP. 100% sure.
CM are white, but I don't think SS went through CM.

Well, like I posted above, from what I've heard SS used a HD (bigger strap) PP with a stock valeo disc. I'm 60% sure what I sent you is a SS High revs JR. I have the reciept for it, and if they did not use CM, then it is a High revs JR.

My SHO Shop Hi Revs Jr/CM stage I was blue. I believe that they use the stock disc.

Those are SS's wider straps and larger head rivets. Some years back, I'd rebuilt a few SS clutch covers, so I have good memories of drilling out those rivets. The shanks are oversized compared to the original Valeo rivets, so I had to Helicoil the holes to use bolted straps.
