If you are interested in projectors, there is a company that I have been corresponding with trying to get some customized for my G2 GL. It was brought to my attention that there might be more interests among SHO and Sable owners, but you are looking at least $600. THat's what was quoted for my G2 GL.

Cut that price in half and I'm sure they'd have half a thousand sales.

Serious! They wouldn't even have to be projectors... Just something with a clear lens and better light pattern would be fine with me!

I would be interested in a set of projector headlights. I would open them up in a second, install my Bosch E46 BMW HID projectors and slap them on the SHO. Who is the company?

By the way, stock gen2 headlights aren't too bad if you have newer housings, a headlight harness and decent bulbs. Now that I have a 3G 94-95 alternator installed, I think they're a little brighter than before.

The name of the company is Lightwerkz. They are based out in NJ. I will ask them the following questions:

1) Can you provide clear leans for our SHO headlamps?
2) How much for a single pair?
3) HOw much for a group buy?

What quantity is techically a group buy? 20? I'll follow up with u guys asap.

It appears that they (or he/she) does projector retrofits and other modifications to existing housings. However, their address looks like more than a small house so maybe they have a large operation. (Google maps is awesome).
Regardless, I didn't see anything on their site that indicates that they manufacture new custom housings. I would be interested in a pair but only for a very specific design. As far as a retro goes, I can do that myself; I just haven't had the time to finish mine. Then again, if they'll do mine for $600 maybe I'd be game...They do offer plastic chroming as a service and that would be very helpful..

My plan is to have the HID projector mounted in the turnsignal spot with the lens sanded smooth so it's clear. This is the "DOT Legal" (I use this term loosely because none of this is really legal and I'm not sure if the DOT even certifies headlights...) spot for a low beam. I want to keep the 9007 bulb in place and use it as a high beam only. If you look at most cars with HID projectors, this is how it's done. Low beams go on the outside and high beams on the inside. I was going to use the fishtanks for turnsignals.

That said, I can't really figure out the logic of the picture posted above. It's just my opinion but it...uhh..doesn't win any style points with me or look like it was something the factory designed.

the biggest speedbump to clear lenses is the fact that our headlights are a "2 compartment" style, with a plastic divider between the marker lights and the high/low sections. every clear lens maker that i know of (including lightwerkz, who is, by the way, a HIDplanet member) uses some form of molding, be it compression or vacuum, in order to make a new lens. this wouldn't work for the SHO headlights because of this barrier.

also, anyone who will do the sanding for you to make the lenses clear is going to charge, IMHO an exorbitantly large price to do so, i've already contacted all the HIDplanet retrofitters who advertise such things.

I'm working on bixenon projector retrofit to replace the highs. it's slow going, and has been pushed to the back burner until i finish the LED tails i'm working on

You have to send your headlamps to them for the retrofitting.

For everyone else, I had received an email from Lightwerkz. It appear that they cannot make retrofitting headlamps if we cannot supply them with clear lenses. So, how do we get clear lenses to them?

Tom,

First of all I dont have access to supplying or making the clear lenses which is the number one issue in this conversion. Without a clear lens the projectors will never work to their full potential.

Do they make aftermarket headlights with clear lenese?

Hey Caesar,

We are only dealing with the 1992-1995 Taurus SHO and Mercury Sable.

The headlamps are different from my car. I have attached 2 pics of it. The headlamps will need to modified since they are prizmatic.

I have the following questions if we have a group buy.
1) Can you do the necessary modifications? Replacing the current lens with a clear lens?
2) The price still at $600+ for a pair?
3) Can we lower the price by as much as 50% if we have 20 orders? 30 orders?

Well, thanks for your help.

You can't unless an aftermarket supplier decides to make custom headlights for our cars or you spend a few hundred hours sanding out the inside of the headlight. If you need inspiration, look at my avatar. That's a Bosch E46 projector inside of a cleared out headlight that I was test firing on a chair that sat at headlight level in front of the SHO...hmm, now I want to finish this project.

Herman Anker used a clear GTS lens cover for his headlights but his headlight dimensions were not quite the same as the OEM's. SHO92 (Bill) and I had discussed a method of using the cover and cutting out the lense but leaving enough behind as a frame for the cover to fit over but I don't think that would work too well because the cover does not meet all of the edges of the headlight.
