Hello everyone I got a 2016 sho with 140k miles on it. Randomly my car wouldn't start at all after getting home and leaving the house again. I would open the door and push the button and nothing. it wouldn't even let me into accessory mode with the push button. The car acted like I didn't even press the button at all nothing on the dash changed or anything. Then I left it alone for about a hour and go back and starts like normal. I then **** it and start it again 30 minutes later and same thing. Now though when I lock and unlock the sho there is no more tail or blinkers flashing or horn honk just lock and unlock. I can hear it locking and unlocking but it looks like the car has no power. When it does the no lights problem it also does the no crank too. I haven't seen a single thing online for this on any car let alone a sho. if anyone has any tips on what I should do to fix It I would love to hear.
Also if you do ask yes I put the key in the center console spot just to make sure the key wasn't dead. the key locks and unlocks so the fob still works

Curious, have you tried using the key to remote start it when the button doesn’t work?
Yep doesn’t do a single thing. The car knows when the door is open and everything because all the lights turn on and the screens do the white blue splash screen so it’s got power to everything. It just acts like the push button is fully dead. That was my first thought but then I was like that wouldn’t explain the random loss of lights and horn when locking and unlocking. Also the tail and brake lights do turn on when you open the door so they do work also.

A few things to try and some points of normal operation, that people may not be aware of.

Do you have another push button remote to try to start it with? If so, what does it do?

Have you tried putting the remote in the vehicle's back up starting slot? It's usually in the center console or glove box area on many Fords. If it starts this way, then I would suspect a weak battery or a failing IA push button key/remote.

Also, battery state of charge, BATT SOC%, is critical in starting, as well as other functions in the vehicle. Many newer vehicles have a load shedding strategy built in to them to protect against weak batteries. When the SOC% drops below a certain thresh hold, certain functions in the vehicle can be disabled particularly by the BCM module which is where the BATT SOC% can be read through with a comparable scan tool. Additionally, if the vehicle has FORD PASS you can see the BATT SOC% in real time.

So, when certain functions don't work in more modern vehicles, it isn't always due to a failure, but more due to weaker batteries. Ironically, even with lower battery SOC, some functions in the vehicle may be disabled, but the vehicle will still start and run ok. The Auto Start/Stop function requires a BATT SOC% of about 75% to function. If it falls below this %, the Auto Start/Stop will be inop. This can be a good result of BATT SOC% being low, as it disables the Auto Start/Stop. Many people dislike the system.

When replacing 12 v batteries in your vehicles, you should always perform a BMS reset, battery monitoring system reset, as this allows the Smart Charging System to be reset to know that the battery has been replaced. The charging system adjusts to the age of the battery. Additionally, letting the vehicle sit over night after replacing a battery, resetting the BMS, will allow the BATT SOC% to accurately reset.

On Fords/Lincolns the BATT SOC% is considered normal at about 80% and up.

Hope this helps.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the members.

100% sounds like your battery. Ford's BMS absolutely eats batteries. I bought a high-dollar battery 3 or so years ago and I'm already getting the "system off to save battery" message. I wonder if you can disable it?

I got the battery replaced 1 month from a ford dealership so the reprogramming should be fully done. I don’t have an another key but also even without a key wouldn’t pushing the button tell me you need the key to start. It doesn’t say a single word when I push the button acts like the button doesn’t work. I also did put the key in the spot but still nothing. It locking and unlocking with the key tells me it sees the key just doesn’t care to start it.

Just offhand, did you try to see if it will remote start with the fob? All the doors need to be locked for the remote function to work too, if you didn't know that.

Well then, it definitely sounds like some kind of electrical or sensor problem. If it was fine before the dealer replaced the battery, it's still sounds like that could be part of it. Remember, sometimes brand-new batteries can be bad. If you have a multi-meter, check the voltage. Should be at least 12 volts.

Good choice. I have this one:

FWIW, the factory was 750cca, so I don't know why the dealership would put the wrong battery in.

i thought it was weird too but it’s showing at the dealership 650 was the battery stock for the car or what ford recommended now.

Run down to your local parts store and get a 750cca+ battery and see what happens. If that doesn't fix your issues, take it back and move on to other possibilities.

Battery was replaced a hour ago with a 800 ccs battery and started fine for first 2 starts then did the same thing with the lock and unlock. I did also tell it I put a new battery in it with forscan with resetting bms
