Okay I've had an ongoing problem with my Boost levels especially on launch. I've been fighting this thing back and forth we couldn't figure out for like me of what was going on. I ended up talking to Matt at Gearhead and he needed some special data logs in order to figure it out. I didn't get around to doing the logs. What he did mention was that my air load demand was kind of messed up.
So I says to myself, self what the heck is an air load demand? So I looks on the internets and finds out stuff about torque demand.
So my car is demanding less torque. I didn't like the sound of that. So I sat and pondered what the heck that could mean. Why in the world would my car want less torque. So I double checked everything on the car and made a mental note about how difficult it was to set the OAR value to -.96.
Now this being a number referring to resistance of knock I thought what the heck could be making it not so easy.
Then the LED flash bulb went off over my head and I went crap and I kicked myself in the ass. I've got carbon buildup in my cylinder heads.
So I used an old trick to clean the carbon out of the cylinder heads. Namely using a squirt bottle to spray distilled water into the throttle body throat while the engine idled. When water is in this cylinder bore it is transform to steam and loosens off the carbon buildup.
Now it took three applications to knock down the carbon enough to get a decent OAR value.
Chances are I'm probably going to have to do this two or three more times in order to he absolutely sure the carbon is cleaned out of the cylinder heads.
Anyhow the long and short of all this is, if you're having trouble sitting here or value with the gas you have available. Consider the possibility that you have carbon buildup in your cylinder heads. It might not be a case of the octane level being low.
